We are currently seeking a Process and Utilities Engineer for our Central Infrastructure team in Charleston, TN.

What you will do:

The Process and Facilities Engineer will perform plant engineering tasks and will have responsibility to maintain and continuously improve the performance of multiple utilities areas, mechanical systems, and equipment in support of the site’s production units. The main objective of this position is to provide engineering and technical services to operations and service units to assure safe operations, regulatory compliance, and to maximize the availability and efficiency of these units.

Technical Duties:

  • Ensure safe operating conditions and regulatory compliance of production units in the Central Infrastructure & Utilities department.
  • Become an Area owner to support availability of utility units, mechanical and process systems, and equipment at required capacity and quality.
  • Coordinate with groups and individuals within Engineering, Procurement, Maintenance, Operations, and other production units to create solutions and complete tasks.
  • Use the Management of Change (MOC) process for engineering changes within the Area of assignment and manage the PSM activities that accompany the MOC process.

Plan, lead and execute small size invest projects (
$2MM). * Consult and support capital projects executed by regional project engineering.

  • Lead and participate in commissioning of new and modified systems.
  • Lead and participate in planning and execution of system or unit turnarounds.
  • Drive and support continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, efficiency, and cost.
  • Conduct and coordinate debottlenecking and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support the maintenance team in planning and execution of ITPM and MRO activities.
  • Maintain asset data in enterprise asset management and plant engineering systems.
  • Supervise third party providers for engineering and maintenance services.
  • Become an expert capable of exercising engineering judgment with respect to the area of responsibility and assigned subject matter expert functions.
  • Develop and support development of specifications and standards.

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline is required
  • 3+ years’ experience in plant engineering and maintenance is preferred (or similar industrial experience)
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering including relevant regulations, standards, and codes such as ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of engineering principles and construction practices.
  • Understanding of function and design of process and mechanical equipment and systems (pumps, heat exchangers, piping, valves, process equipment, HVAC, fire protection, cranes, hoists, and elevators etc.)
  • Good understanding of mechanical and physical processes.
  • Knowledge about common materials of construction used in respective systems.
  • Knowledge of corrosion protection and material selection.
  • Objective judgment and fact-based decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements.
  • Strong multitasking competency.
  • Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure.
  • Leadership skills combined with team player attitude.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams.
  • Preferred (not required) experience with SAP EAM and Comos.

Work Conditions and Environment:

  • Plant Engineering activities are performed mainly in an office environment but also require presence in the field (manufacturing plant and/or construction site). Ability to walk out to the production building multiple times each day if needed. Ability to climb 10 flights of stairs.

Commissioning of new systems or shutdown and start-up of existing systems as required.
Candidate must pass a pulmonary function test to be capable of wearing an air purifying respirator, if required. * Location for this position is the Wacker Polysilicon site in Charleston, TN. However, business travel to Wacker’s sites in Germany and/or to other Wacker US sites may be required if deemed necessary to become familiar with project specifics, Wacker tools and processes and to integrate with the Wacker team. Business travel may also be required to meet with vendors and suppliers as needed.

  • Due to schedule and milestone requirements nonstandard working hours may be required.
