The team is also dedicated to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging.POSITION SUMMARY:The Program Associate provides support for implementation of the Asia programming portfolio including for new project development, logistical, administrative, and financial matters, research, and reporting. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, incredibly organized, curious about learning, and proactive. Reporting to the Director of Asia Programs, the PA will work closely with other members of the Asia Programs team. This position will work a hybrid schedule from the DC metropolitan region and will require occasional presence in the Washington, DC office.This is a nonexempt position. The position holder must obtain written authorization from his/her supervisor before working in excess of 40 hours in a work-week.PRINCIPAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND EXPECTATIONS:Project implementation support
- Provide programmatic, logistical, financial, and administrative support for current projects.
- This includes but is not limited to engaging in program development and implementation meetings, organizing meetings and events, supporting finance and operations by making payments requests, supporting expense reports etc., drafting program reports, and maintaining communication with partners and other external actors as requested.
Project and proposal development support
- Monitor developments in Asia, particularly events pertaining to human rights, democracy, and fundamental freedoms.
- Work with supervisor to develop and pursue new opportunities by identifying potential partners and funding sources.
- Assist in editing/drafting proposals, including budgets and monitoring and evaluation and data collection tools.
External relations
- Develop effective professional relationships with grantees, other local organizations, peer organizations and partners, and donors.
- Attend outside meetings and events as requested, and prepare notes for team.
- Assist in editing/drafting press releases, articles, and briefing books.
- Organize events and meetings in DC and abroad related to Freedom House programs. Other related duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, regional/area studies, or other social science or related field
Experience:
- Knowledge of international human rights principles and understanding of international democracy promotion
- 1-2 years professional experience, including internships, that included budget management, USG-funded grants support preferred
- While previous experience in Asia is not required, an interest in learning about Asia and the human rights situation across Asia is
Technical Skills and Abilities:
- Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Mastery of MS Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Demonstrated experience managing and creating budgets in Excel preferred.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and USG grant-related compliance requirements and/or interest and ability to develop these skills
- Ability to apply accurate and strong database and records management skills
- Strong ability to independently plan, organize, prioritize work, and multitask to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to apply superb attention to detail and consistently produce timely and error-free work
- Ability to collaborate with others and successfully work as an effective team member
- Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times

COMPENSATION & REWARDS:
- Salaries are commensurate with experience and based on pay grades that prioritize equity across the organization. Salary range for this role is $45,000 to $52,000 annualized, dependent upon experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Essential functions are typically performed in an office setting or remote work.
- May require long hours including evenings and weekends to complete tasks.
