The German Red Cross (GRC) is part of a worldwide community assisting victims of conflicts and disasters and people affected by social or health related crises. The Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement provides vulnerable people with assistance and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality. The German Red Cross assists in disaster response, rehabilitation and capacity building projects on appeals of their sister organisations within the Movement.
The GRC is looking for an experienced Programme Coordinator (m/f/d) for Central America. Together with its Sister National Societies, GRC supports projects in several Central American countries, among them Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica and El Salvador.
The GRC office covering Central America is located in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and was established in 2019. The Program Delegate reports to and works under the supervision of the GRC Head of Office (HoO) in Tegucigalpa and will be part of an experienced team of national and international staff. The position requires regular field visits in the region.

Location: Tegucigalpa, Honduras (or another country of GRC cooperation in Central America)
Main duties & responsibilities:
- Coordinate and monitor the implementation of GRC projects in the region, ensuring high programme quality and secure full compliance with donor regulations and GRC policies, in close coordination with the Sister National Societies. This includes financial management, programme monitoring and evaluation, narrative and financial reporting, etc. as well as promoting the integration of best practices and innovative approaches in projects.
- Explore funding opportunities and support the preparation of successful concept notes and project proposals.
- Support the Sister National Societies in the region in strengthening their operational and technical capacities.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between the Sister National Societies and the GRC, as well as liaising and maintaining a close working relationship with government, scientific, UN, (I)NGO, other relevant stakeholders.
- Represent the organization at regional meetings, workshops and forums related to the programs.
- Design and implement training activities for local staff and volunteers of the Sister National Societies.
- Manage short-term disaster relief activities, if required.
Required Competencies & Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in programme coordination and project management (including financial management; budgeting, monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance, reporting, etc.).
- Technical background in one or more of the following areas: Anticipatory Action, Disaster Risk Reduction, Crisis or Disaster Response, Climate Change Adaptation, WASH, Migration, Health, Gender and Protection.
- Substantial experience in implementing donor-funded projects.
- Proven expertise in capacity-building and organizational development, experience in working for the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with the context of Central America is an asset.
- Strong communication, networking, and representation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member in multi-cultural environments and teams.
- Ability and agreement to adhere to the Red Cross Red Crescent fundamental principles
- Oral and written fluency in Spanish and English.
- Ability to complete a thorough medical screening process ‘working abroad under specific climate and health conditions’.
- Valid Driving Licence.
