Mission and objectives
UNICEF, also known as the United Nations Children’s Fund, is a United Nations agency responsible for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide. The agency is among the most widespread and recognizable social welfare organizations in the world, with a presence in 192 countries and territories. UNICEF’s activities include providing immunizations and disease prevention, administering treatment for children and mothers with HIV, enhancing childhood and maternal nutrition, improving sanitation, promoting education, and providing emergency relief in response to disasters.
Context
In line with the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS) and the UNICEF disability inclusion policy And Strategy (DIPAS 2022-2030) UNICEF has expanded its inclusive programming across all programmatic sectors, including education, social protection, child protection, health, WASH, early childhood development and social behavioural change. Through its newly established Disability Inclusion Team and the generous funding from the government of Norway, UNICEF ESARO has developed its regional plan of action for accelerating results for children with disabilities identifying three regional joint priorities for cross-sectoral collaboration and inclusive impact for all children with focus for the approximately 29 million children with disabilities in the region. The disability inclusion team works to strengthen partnerships for disability inclusion, build capacity of Country Offices in disability inclusive programming both in development and humanitarian settings, generate evidence about children and adolescents with disabilities, and strengthen visibility of disability inclusive programming in internal and external communication work of the region.
Task description
Knowledge Management and communications
The tasks of the Programme Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Provide support and contribute to the ESARO disability inclusion programme and operations by supporting evidence generation and knowledge management through providing professional assistance in data collection and analysis, as well as reporting
-Participate in various research findings dissemination events, and knowledge sharing of “lessons learned” and corporate level databases
-Participate in information exchange with country offices as well as in the development of training and orientation materials on disability inclusion
-Contribute to the effective communications to advocate the disability inclusivity across the region. This includes for example developing the monthly update, as well as input into production of various knowledge management products, such as human-interest stories, articles, and social media posts, to share any best practices and lessons learned.
-Complete and contribute to other related tasks
