Position Title : Project Assistant (Community Engagement Animator)

Duty Station : Doha, Qatar

Classification: General Service Staff, G-4

Type of Appointment : One Year Fixed Term, with possibility of extension

Context:

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. Under the overall supervision of the Community Engagement Officer and direct supervision of the Project Facility Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting Community Engagement programmes within the area of responsibility as below context:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Facility Officer and Community Engagement Assistants in delivering community engagement activities, including Community sports & Leisure activities.

2. Suport with the implementation of Social Cohesion activities and enhance existing social cohesion activities for Adults and Children including people with disabilities.

3. Effectively work with community volunteers – in person and through various online platforms – to ensure seamless coordination and cooperation.

4. Provide technical knowledge and support on arts and crafts, games and other fun activities beneficial to the community.

5. Assist with organizing and facilitating community meetings, workshops, focus group discussions to gather feedback, address concerns, and provide relevant information.

6. Provide field-based reporting related to Community Engagement.

7. Support with scheduled activities, cultural celebrations, community events, and the disseminating of key information and advocacy messages to the guests.

8. Facilitate youth community mobilization, organize youth coaching and mentoring sessions in ways that allow for a transfer of skills and facilitate peer to peer knowledge generation.

9. Provide support as required for the implementation of other elements of field team activity including those related to livelihoods.

10. Participate in the continuous monitoring and evaluation of the program at the different phases of intervention.

11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

· University degree in Social Sciences or equivalent from an accredited academic university or institute with a minimum of two (2) years relevant working experience or;

· Completed high school diploma with at least four (4) years of relevant experience.

Experience

· Experience working for the United Nations, an official mission, Events organisation, non-governmental organization or relevant government department a distinct advantage.

· Excellent knowledge and skills in art and crafts, resilience building, events planning.

· Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles.

· Demonstrated ability to draft and prepare clear and concise formal correspondence and project reports.

Skills

  • Capacity to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from various cultures and professional background
  • Ability to work independently, with flexibility
  • Ability to work in a team and good interpersonal skills.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

REQUIRED

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

DESIRABLE

Working knowledge Dari, and Pashto is an advantage.
