Through its Historic Waste Program (HWP), CNL is implementing the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI)– a federal initiative to clean-up low-level radioactive waste situated in the Municipality of Port Hope and the Municipality of Clarington. The project involves remediating several contaminated sites to established clean-up criteria and consolidating the wastes in a new engineered mound (one in each community). The project is sponsored by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), and project delivery is led by CNL. The HWP also carries out responsibilities of the federal government to manage non-PHAI low-level radioactive waste within Canada under its National Programs initiative.
The Construction Field Coordinator (CFC) will be part of the soil remediation/restoration team and will work directly under the direction of the Construction Manager. The CFC will provide support and direct oversight to remediation/restoration activities under various PHAI scopes of work to ensure compliance with regulatory, contract specifications and design requirements.
What will you be doing !
- Essential duties of this position are described below:
- The Project Coordinator is part of the Historic Waste Programs Management Office (HWP MO)Construction Team interacting directly with internal stakeholders and other contributing parties involved in the development and implementation of the management of LLRW located at a variety of sites around the Port Hope Community. The Project Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Construction Manager.
- The Project Coordinator will actively assists with the definition, coordination and implementation of the various engineering work packages under the scope of services described as site remediation.
- The Project Coordinator will assist in preparing/reviewing various project documents including TSWs, SOWs, project schedules, and project budgets.
- The Project Coordinator will participate in evaluating contractor performance against contract requirements and key performance indicators
- The Project Coordinator will review contractor submittals (work plans, shop drawings, schedules, SOPs, reports, costs/
invoices, etc.), and ensure scope requirements are met. * The Project Coordinator reviews technical studies and detailed reports prepared by design consultants and other contributing parties to ensure high quality (technical accuracy and appropriateness) and consistency with formats/requirements to CNL technical documentation standards.
- They will monitor technical progress on engineering and design work activities, studies and contracts, against standards, objectives and specifications.
- They prepares work plans and implements them.
- They prepares complex reports and specifications subject to review by the Construction Manager.
- They monitors deliverables for technical accuracy and adequacy, checks calculations, and assesses need for potential changes in scope, cost, schedule or quality.
- They gains familiarity with commercial, business and administrative procedures such as change orders and contracts.
- They researches information and provides input and to assist the Construction Manager in important technical matters and assists in the identification and scoping of project deliverables and associated cost projections.
- They works closely with CNL staff and counterparts in other organizations participating in the PHAI project to confirm progress assure alignment and resolve problems.
- They will liaise with and assist members of the Port Hope Integrated Project Team in the interpretation
and use of tech specs and drawings and documents to advance remediation.
What we are looking for :
- Have a basic understanding of the Ontario Building Code and/or have undertaken OBC related study/courses.
knowledge of engineering procedures and practices, organization and quality processes.
Good understanding of compliance program requirements, knowledgeable of procurement practices and contract management.
Knowledge of project management principles (scope, schedule, time, quality, risk) and hands-on experience in the management of engineering activities during the various phases of a project. * A minimum 5 years of experience in soil remediation/restoration with a solid understanding of general construction principles. Experience in the remediation of radiologically impacted soils would be considered a valuable asset to the prospective candidate.
- Post-Secondary education in a directly related field of study will be considered an asset to a prospective candidate.
- Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.

- Able to work independently and as a member of a team to complete required tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
- The Project Coordinator will be based in the HWP MO Port Hope office or at the Remediation site office.
- The work may involve additional responsibilities as assigned by Construction Manager.

Roughly 100 km East of Toronto, still close enough to the “Big City” without all the hassle of being in the “Big City”.
