The opportunity

Provide project management services to corporate departments and branches as required and agreed to by the business owners (branch/department heads and/or managers).

Projects in the context of this role include strategic projects of low to medium complexity for CWBFG.

Day-to-day activities

FINANCIAL PILLAR

  • Full management of projects budgets, including vendor invoice management, budget tracking, and final project delivery within the agreed budget.
  • Prepare, maintain, and report on project budgets to the Project Owner, including acting as lead for tracking and accounting for project-related expenditures (capital and NIE).
  • Continuous review and action on opportunities to improve project cost savings, reduce rework, and effectively use resources assigned to projects.

CLIENT PILLAR

Ensure client and user impacts are validated throughout the project lifecycle, including enablement of defined project benefits.

SUPPORT PILLAR

Provide hands-on project management support including implementing project governance practices aligned with the PMO Governance Framework (practices, processes, and artifacts) and in alignment with project stakeholder expectations including Executive Sponsor and Project Owner.

Successfully complete projects, initiatives and activities as assigned and defined to improve and support business process effectiveness and efficiency benefits, in accordance with project stakeholder expectations including Executive Sponsor and Project Owner.

Effectively deliver leadership on projects as assigned, including demonstrated encouragement of team cohesion and growth, maintenance of vendor-client relationships, and sustainment of team motivation and commitment to projects.

Prepare, maintain, and report on project budget to Project Owner, including acting as lead for tracking and accounting for project-related expenditures (Capital and NIE).

In alignment with the Project Charter, complete management of project scope, quality, vendor management, reportable benefits tracking, and overall final delivery within the agreed timelines.

For quality, enforce the standardized PMO Project Management Plan practices for each project assigned, including implementation of effective change, communication, and stakeholder engagement processes.

Develop and maintain detailed MS project schedules in support of planned work (resourced and maintained weekly), which rolls up to weekly status and applicable defined frequency steering/executive reporting.

Ensure all client and user impacts are validated throughout the project lifecycle and with People First and other applicable business groups.

Ensure all technical impacts are validated throughout the project lifecycle and with the Enterprise Architecture team.

Effectively engage and lead the day-to-day management of assigned project team members through planned work activities (team size variable depending on project) in view of deliverables.

Continually monitor project management “best practices” to ensure opportunities to improve our project processes are considered and evaluated.

Maintain continuous learning that enhances the knowledge, skills and abilities required to provide support on assigned project governance and project management activities.

Ensure continued project alignment with the PMO and the CWB Financial Group’s strategic direction and business plans.

Keys to success

Education

An undergraduate degree in information technology (ideally software focused), project management, or a related discipline.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required.

Ideal candidate would also have ADKAR and Lean Six Sigma certifications

Professional Experience

Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years progressively responsible and diversified project management experience, preferably in the financial industry, in the areas of information technology (software/hardware implementation), business transformation, and new business line product and service rollout.

Proven effectiveness in managing small to medium multi-departmental and enterprise level projects, demonstrating the ability to effectively manage risk, conflict resolution and collaboration/fostering of project success.

Experience in managing the end-to-end implementation of a third party vendor Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) product or and/or in-house software/product development project through a robust Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Expertise with all aspects of project management processes, including project procurement and vendor management processes.

Advance skill in use of project management software, tools and techniques.

Personal Competencies

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong leadership, analytical, interpersonal, and negotiation skills are required.

High degree of organization and ability to effectively multi-task and shift priorities.

Exercises excellent judgement and demonstrates strong decision-making skills.

A collaborative approach, able to produce effective results across multiple and diverse stakeholder groups at all levels of an organization.

High level of commitment with a proven ability to work effectively under pressure to meet required deadlines.
