This position is based CONUS/OCONUS and is contingent upon a contract award.The United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) requires professional services to support theater-strategic joint staff requirements focused on planning, coordinating, synchronizing, and integrating Department of Defense (DoD) military activities with United States Government (USG) policy and strategy. These professional services will support HQ USCENTCOM’s execution of the seven joint functions common to joint operations: command and control, information, intelligence, fires, movement and maneuver, protection, and sustainment. These joint functions are organized and executed across the joint staff schema that includes manpower, intelligence, operations, logistics, engineering, plans, strategy, policy, communications, training, resource management, and public affairs.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and manage media relations on behalf of CENTCOM.
- Develop and implement comprehensive media strategies to ensure accurate and timely reporting of CENTCOM activities, operations, and initiatives.
- Prepare press releases, media advisories, talking points, speeches, and other communication materials that convey CENTCOM’s mission, goals, and key messages.
- Coordinate interviews, briefings, and media engagements for CENTCOM leaders and senior officials with local, national, and international media outlets.
- Work with the CENTCOM leadership to develop crisis communication plans and manage high-stakes situations, including incidents that may affect public perception or media coverage.
- Provide media monitoring and analysis to anticipate potential issues and help the command address concerns before they escalate.
- Act as a liaison during times of crisis or military operations to ensure consistent messaging across media channels.
- Manage and oversee CENTCOM’s social media presence across multiple platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.), ensuring timely and relevant updates, engagement, and positive messaging.
- Collaborate with the CENTCOM Digital Communications team to produce and share multimedia content, including videos, graphics, and articles that promote the command’s objectives and improve its visibility.
- Analyze digital and social media metrics to assess the effectiveness of public affairs campaigns and adjust strategies as necessary.
- Coordinate public events, briefings, and community engagement initiatives to improve CENTCOM’s relationships with local communities, partner nations, and U.S. audiences.
- Represent CENTCOM at public and media events, conferences, and engagements with key stakeholders such as foreign government officials, U.S. diplomats, NGOs, and other international organizations.
- Develop educational materials, outreach programs, and speaking engagements designed to raise awareness about CENTCOM’s operations and the broader U.S. foreign policy goals in the region.
- Work closely with internal communication teams to ensure consistent messaging within CENTCOM and across Department of Defense (DoD) and other U.S. government agencies.
- Support the development of internal communications for CENTCOM personnel to improve morale, ensure alignment with strategic goals, and foster transparency.
- Provide advice to senior leadership on media relations and messaging that align with CENTCOM’s mission and the Department of Defense’s broader communications strategy.
- Provide media training and coaching to CENTCOM leadership and personnel on effective communication techniques, media interview preparation, and handling press inquiries.
- Develop and conduct media readiness exercises, including mock interviews and crisis communication drills, to prepare CENTCOM personnel for engagement with the press.
- Track and report on the effectiveness of public affairs activities, using data and feedback to measure the impact of communication efforts.
- Prepare regular reports on media coverage, sentiment analysis, and public perception to keep senior leadership informed of current trends and issues in the region.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION & SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in public affairs, media relations, or strategic communications, with at least 2 years working in a military, government, or international relations environment.
- Proven experience in managing media inquiries, crafting press materials, and working with a wide range of stakeholders including government officials, the military, and international media.
- Experience in crisis communications, media training, and strategic messaging is highly desirable.
- Previous experience supporting a combatant command or military public affairs is highly preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex military and political concepts to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of military operations and structure, with an understanding of CENTCOM’s mission and objectives.
- Experience managing social media channels and using digital tools to engage with global audiences.
- Expertise in media relations, including familiarity with international news outlets, diplomatic channels, and foreign press.
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with military and civilian personnel from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic, Farsi, or other regional languages is a plus.
- Must be eligible for a U.S. government security clearance (minimum Secret clearance).
- The ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance is preferred.
- Willingness to travel or deploy to the CENTCOM AOR, including potentially hazardous or austere environments.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and culturally diverse setting, often under stressful conditions.
