This position is located in Montesano, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance to the duty station and you must live within Region 6.

Counties served: Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, and Thurston.

As the Director’s representative in the region, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the implementation of WDFW’s mission to preserve, protect, and perpetuate fish, wildlife, and ecosystems.

This position involves strategic leadership, coordination with Program Directors, and fostering effective communication to achieve shared goals.

With that in mind,

You will be responsible for resolving complex regional management issues, the Regional Director in Region 6 will collaborate with state and federal agencies, tribes, and the public under the guidance of the Director.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of representing the Director federal, Washington and Oregon State, thirteen Tribal Nations, local and elected officials; residents, environmental and industry groups; and the regulated community resolving cross-program issues with stakeholders, developing and maintaining strong Tribal relationships, building interdisciplinary solutions to natural resource issues. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the regional landscape and making decisions that directly influence operations at the regional office.

As our Region 6 Director you will be,

Responsible for:

  • Resolving regional management issues with other state or federal agencies, tribes, and public with Director
  • Resolving cross-program issues within the region
  • Developing, prioritizing, and administering the operating budget allotted to the region.
  • Prioritizing land acquisitions and access development projects within the region
  • Prioritizing capital budget projects within the region
  • Decisions that affect operations in the regional office including personnel and administrative matters.
  • Decides which regional issues should be brought to the Director’s Office or agency Executive Management Team for resolution and recommends a course of action.

Position has shared accountability for:

  • Deviations from budget authority.
  • Resolution of unresolved conflicts between regions and headquarters.
  • Unresolved conflicts with agency policy decisions.
  • Decisions which may conflict with the Governor’s Office or state policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • As an exempt employee, incumbent is expected to be available to work as needed beyond normal (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Travel to agency headquarters in Olympia can be expected on a routine basis.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Natural Resources or related field.

And

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible natural resource management experience with a demonstrated ability to establish and accomplish goals and objectives, and communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Competencies:

  • A demonstrated commitment to fish, wildlife, and resource management.
  • A demonstrated ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with federal, state, local, and tribal government officials, elected officials, the media, special interest groups, and other constituents and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively, facilitating team approaches to problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws as they apply to tribal treaty fishing and hunting rights.
