This is a hybrid position that requires 8 days per month in the office. You can be based in our offices in The Hague or London; WRI Europe. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.About the Program:The World Resources Institute is seeking a Regional Manager, Accounting and Finance to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the Europe accounting department and help WRI maintain accurate and timely financial accounts. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers. Our office in Europe is relatively new and growing, and part of this role will be to ensure that we have a solid foundation of systems and processes in place now and in the future. We have staff based in three locations in Europe: The Netherlands, UK, and Germany.Job Highlight:Reporting to the Europe Operations Director with a dotted line to the Global Accounting Director, you will ensure compliance with Europe statutory regulations and internal WRI policies. You will take a leading role in designing our structures for the future, as we build on our Europe presence and implement new systems and processes. Working with a collaborative team of people, you will manage a team of two. The team works with the wider Global Accounting team and with Program Coordinators (PCs) across the institute. You will be an integral part of the Europe Operations Team.What will you do:Accounting and Finance (50%):

  • Review and approval of all monthly/quarterly reconciliations
  • Prepare the year-end accounts and financial statements for WRI Europe (Regional entity and UK branch office)
  • Backup reviewer and approver for monthly payroll data submitted and prepared by the Payroll Administrator and third-party payroll vendor
  • Prepare annual core team budgets for WRI Europe in line with budgetary requirements
  • Monitor and manage the core team budget on a monthly/quarterly basis, ensuring timely forecasting and reporting
  • Lead the quarterly financial review process ensuring comprehensive analysis of variances and providing strong narrative reporting
  • Manage cash flow requirements on a monthly basis to ensure funds available as required

General (20%):

  • Oversee the daily financial management and accounting function
  • Lead, guide and develop the Accounting team
  • Lead on the development of the WRI Accounting and Finance function
  • Ensure the appropriate systems, policies and processes are in place and aligned with organizational strategy and values
  • Work with Accounting Manager / Europe Operations Director to ensure compliance with all Europe statutory requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all internal WRI policies
  • Analyse the evolving business requirements and ensure an effective accounting/reporting structure for WRI Europe
  • Lead on the implementation of new policies and procedures
  • Participate in the adoption of new accounting standards released by IFRS and FASB

Systems (20%):

  • Lead on the implementation of new accounting and budgeting systems
  • Ensure the alignment of global systems with local regulatory needs
  • Support a successful rollout of the new systems, in line with capacity and timelines

Other Work (10%):

  • Assist with global office annual and project audits regarding Europe related entries as required
  • Lead in the preparation of the Accounting Handbook for WRI Europe
  • Suggest and support system improvement work, with a focus on more efficient and effective processes where possible
  • Advise and set up a dashboard of reports and analysis for the Europe Operations Director
  • Assist with ad hock tasks as needed, as well as any ad hoc reporting, analysis, and reconciliation of data as required
  • Be a backup to senior accountant

What will you need:

  • Education: You have completed a master’s degree in accounting or related field plus accounting qualification
  • Experience: You have 10+ years of hands-on experience with Accounting processes, year-end closing work, and audit procedures in an International NGO
  • 2-3 years of management experience
  • Experience working with donor funded projects
  • You have high-level competence in budgeting, financial analysis and forecasting.
  • Experience preparing a dashboard
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint 8.1, Time & Expense and Online payment processing system preferred
  • Experience with system implementation, automation, testing, and troubleshooting system issues in collaboration with outside vendors/consultants preferred.
  • Experience setting up policies and processes.
  • Languages: Written and verbal proficiency in English, with additional languages a plus
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization

Potential Salary: NL salary range is between 80K – 101K EUR. For the UK the salary range is between 65K to 82K GBP.
