As a Relationship Manager – Syndication Deals:

You will report into the Director, Team Lead, and contribute to the growth of the inbound Syndicated Financing portfolio by underwriting and recommending high quality transactions in accordance with Meridian Credit Union’s (MCU) credit policies and risk parameters. You will conduct in-depth analysis and due diligence activities for Syndicated Financing loan proposals. The Relationship Manager will develop and manage accounts and influence relationships to grow the MCU Syndicated Financing portfolio, while meeting MCU profitability objectives.

You are a professional who understands the importance of building and nurturing relationships in the community and with Meridian Members. You will seek to grow the size and profitability of the commercial book while minimizing loan risk and maximizing product penetration. The successful candidate will have experience and expertise in managing large real estate & Construction Financing, lending in Hospitality industry and General Industry (working capital financing). This person will be responsible for large, inbound syndicated credits within the Business Banking Centre.

What you will do:

Manage the assigned credit portfolio of Syndicated Financing accounts, identifying and escalating any material risk issues to ensure the risk rating remains accurate at all times.

Proactively build a key COI (Centre of Influences) network of chartered bank representatives, lawyers, and others to help MCU achieve its objectives and foster deal sharing opportunities.

Structure, negotiate and document credit and cash management arrangements outlining loan terms and conditions relative to risk, needs of borrower and cost of administration ensuring an appropriate return to the Credit Union.

Demonstrate a well-developed understanding and solid analytical skills in the areas of balance sheets, cash flow mechanics, and business plans.

Keep abreast of general issues affecting Syndicated Financing, including market conditions, industry practices and financial results for existing and potential Members.

Minimize loan risks through diligent, timely and proactive annual financial reviews and ongoing monitoring of changing economic/marketplace influences and applicable industry trends/data. Address issues such as compliance or material changes that arise as deals are being negotiated, structured and documented.

Conduct extensive due diligence and prepares credit submissions in accordance with the company’s standards and procedures and present them to the Director, Team Lead.

Focus on the highest quality Member service, ensuring alignment with overall Meridian and Commercial goals and objectives.

Mentor and coach less experienced Commercial Services colleagues through collaborative teamwork and provides advice in regards to account management and credit structuring.

Actively participate in Company and Community events and activities while demonstrating Meridian values.

How you will succeed:

University Degree in Business or Finance or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum of 2-5 years of progressive commercial lending experience in sales/service and managing a diverse portfolio in a commercial banking environment or like field.

Proven experience and expertise in structuring, managing and servicing large, syndicated real estate and construction financing deals will be a definite advantage.

Advanced knowledge of business lending policies, complex procedures, techniques and documentation requirements

Advanced knowledge of statutory guidelines and regulations governing business lending

Extensive credit and non-credit product knowledge with a desire to enhance the level and breadth of this knowledge base on an on-going basis.

Proven origination, business development, relationship building and portfolio management skills.

In depth knowledge of accounting policies and procedures.

Effective knowledge of banking systems and computer applications.

Advanced understanding of credit risk, credit structuring and underwriting skills.

Strong negotiation, communication and presentation skills (both verbally and in writing).

Ability to work independently with confidence and strong commitment to Member service. * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
