Do you want to work in a fast-paced environment that supports the delivery of Imperial College’s academic mission? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Reporting Analyst within the College support services Finance Business Partnering team. The support services Finance Business Partnering team provide accountancy and business partnership support for all core non-academic departments and related subsidiaries, with a combined net budget of c.£300m.

We are looking for an ambitious, experienced applicant with strong analytical, accounting and communication skills to provide financial management services to a range of Support Services departments.

You must be passionate about supporting the College in achieving its academic mission which includes biomedical research that impacts on the health and wealth of societies, managing and delivering solutions for pandemics, teaching the next business leaders of the future and leading world-class research, training and innovation towards effective action on climate change and the environment.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for enabling sound financial management of departments
  • First point of contact for support service operational managers. Expected to use technical skills and professional experience to provide accountancy support and financial advice to department managers
  • Responsible for the production of monthly financial management reports for support service departments; including analysis of variances to budget, in-year forecasts and explanation of financial reports to budget holders
  • Forecasting staff costs across support service departments; reconciling with actual costs and modelling for changes such as grading; hours of work; leavers and joiners etc.
  • To support the annual budget round process, through the preparation, collation, analysis and upload of budgets liaising with departmental managers as appropriate
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to improve the use of data analytics (such as PowerBI) within the team to support decision-making.

Essential requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree (2:1 minimum)
  • Experience of financial management
  • Proven ability to work within a complex financial environment
  • Strong IT skills, advanced Excel and finance systems (preferably Oracle and Essbase)
  • Proven numerical and accounting skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative, seeking advice from appropriate members of staff where necessary
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills – relate with tact and discretion to colleagues and customers at all levels
