  • The primary focus of the role will be on alternatives research within the UK Multi-Asset team, with additional responsibilities for further supporting the team’s portfolio managers in a range of areas. The team manages an array of funds, solutions and advisory accounts with varying risk tolerances and methods of implementation.
  • The candidate will need a strong interest in financial markets and the flexibility to research a range of different asset classes, investment vehicles and securities within the team’s frameworks.
  • The candidate should have the ability to contribute effectively within a collegiate environment but with an ability to research independently.
  • You will be required to conduct research into a range of asset classes, including private equity, infrastructure, property, hedge funds and commodities. Analysis will focus on liquid vehicles to access these asset classes, such as investment companies and UCITS funds.
  • You will be expected to generate investment views and ideas for potential inclusion in client mandates in support of the portfolio managers.
  • Communication of investment views to internal stakeholders, clients and the press will also be a key component of the role. This will include producing and presenting research for the multi-asset team’s weekly and monthly asset allocation research and markets update meetings.
  • You will produce written content for communication to both clients and the press on alternative markets, investment themes and ideas, and produce performance and market commentaries for client reports across a range of mandates.
  • You may also be asked to help with both regular and ad hoc day-to-day tasks involved in the management of client mandates, including portfolio monitoring, generating performance reports and writing commentaries.

Must have skills

  • Willingness to work hard, ability to work and make decisions independently
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task, organise, and assimilate large amounts of information quickly
  • Coping with pressure and setbacks, investing needs to be your passion
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of carrying out due diligence on investment companies/strategies, ideally gained through at least three years prior experience as a research analyst on the sell-side or buy-side
  • In-depth knowledge of listed alternatives/alternative investment companies, in sectors such as private equity, infrastructure, property and specialist credit
  • Degree educated (all disciplines considered)
  • IMC and CFA qualified (or studying towards)
  • Microsoft office skills to include Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg and other market data platforms

Nice to have skills

  • Knowledge/analysis of hedge fund strategies, commodity markets and reinsurance
  • Financial modelling
