Our Materials Science Branch is looking for a R&D Technical Officer!INTRO
The candidate will provide technical support to the Fuel Assembly Science and Technology (FAST) section within the Materials Science Branch. Working as part of a well-established team of professionals and technologists, the candidate will support the development of joining and assembly methods for fuel, fuel assemblies, and other components for both current and advanced reactors. As well, the candidate may participate in manufacturing of small batches of fuel or irradiation targets, including mixed-oxide (MOX) fuel.What will you be doing!

  • Perform assembly operations, such as machining or welding.
  • Perform assessment of assemblies, such as helium leak testing, metallurgical examination, or mechanical testing
  • Perform dimensional measurements on components with a variety of techniques (optical extensometry, laser, density measurements, etc.).
  • Perform basic data analysis and document the results in reports.
  • Ensure that the work is conducted to the appropriate Quality Assurance standards.
  • Ensure the safe operation of laboratories.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for :

  • Graduation with a diploma in a related field, such as machinist, welding, or mechanical engineering technology from a recognized college, or equivalent formal education; OR Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and normally has more than 3 years pertinent experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
  • Basic understanding of algebraic expressions, statistical methods and regression analysis.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, with a working knowledge of CAD being desirable.
  • Strong project management, experimental planning and communication skills.
  • Experience in machining, welding, metal forming or casting is an asset.

Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. .
