This role will make a critical contribution to Kew’s Sustainable Rattan Project (https://www.kew.org/science/our-science/projects/sustainable-rattan), a research programme that brings together plant scientists, conservation actors and key players in the rattan furniture industry to increase the sustainability of rattan products. You will be an integral part of the project team comprising plant DNA scientists regularly interacting with conservation biologists and rattan traders from Europe and South-East Asia. Taking place in the Jodrell Laboratory at Kew, your job will involve a combination of lab- and desk-based activities. (PDF, 121.74kb)More detailsA suitable candidate for this role will ideally have a BSc degree or equivalent in biology and be familiar with the use of lab equipment to obtain and sequence DNA from plants or other organisms. They will have a genuine interest in plant conservation and sustainable use, and be keen to do a mix of labwork and computer work involving the study of plant DNA.They will be open to be guided, trained (e.g. in DNA lab and analyses procedures) and supported by the project lead and other team members, and yet they will show autonomy in managing their work and delivering results. They will enjoy collaborating and communicating with the team and participating in the team’s interactions with a diverse range of stakeholders (e.g. public, rattan traders). Albeit not essential, any contributions they will make to the wider project and outputs will be highly valued.Please upload a copy of your research CV to support your application.
