We are seeking a part-time Research Assistant to support an ongoing project called: “Designing with CARE: Co-Creating Solutions for Complex Care Coordination in Oncology.” This is offered in collaboration between the CMU School of Design, the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, and the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at UPMC Magee Women’s Hospital. It uses a human-centered design approach to develop solutions for healthcare challenges, particularly in cancer care coordination.

Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Research Support: Assist in conducting exploratory and generative research, including developing research protocols, conducting field studies, and gathering qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with CARE Champions, healthcare providers, and patients to gather insights and facilitate access to necessary resources.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze collected data to identify key insights, patterns, and opportunities for improvement in cancer care coordination.
  • Solution Development: Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute to the conceptualization, design, and prototyping of innovative solutions.
    Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of research activities and findings. Prepare reports and presentations to share progress and insights with the course team and stakeholders.
  • Classroom Assistance: Support the professor and students during class sessions, including facilitating discussions, managing breakout activities, and assisting with hands-on exercises.
  • Resource Management: Organize and manage digital and physical resources, ensuring they are accessible and up-to-date for student use.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in or completion of relevant coursework in design, nursing, public health, or related fields.
  • Strong interest in healthcare, specifically in oncology and care coordination.
  • Experience with research methods and data analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools for research and design.

  • This position is part-time, 20 hours per week and fixed term, expected to last through June 2024
