The research assistant will be involved in recruiting participants, connecting with families to schedule study visits, building and maintaining databases, and submitting research ethics documents.Organizational StatusReporting to the Principal Investigator, the research assistant is responsible for applying straightforward technical knowledge and skills to perform well-defined, routine procedures in clinical research.The Department of Pediatrics is located at the BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH). Conceptually and practically, it has a dual identity: it is the Department of Pediatrics of the Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia (UBC), and it is the Department of Pediatrics, BC Children’s Hospital, an Agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). As such, the Head is not only the Head of the Department of Pediatrics at UBC, but is also the Chief, Pediatric Medicine, BCCH. The Department’s faculty, almost all of whom are pediatricians, are academic or clinical appointees of the University of British Columbia and are based at BCCH, Sunnyhill Health Center for Children, or in community practices.The Department consists of twenty one Divisions: Adolescent Health, Allergy, Biochemical Diseases, Cardiology, Critical Care, Dermatology, Developmental Pediatrics, Emergency, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Pediatrics, Hematology/Oncology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neurology, Palliative Care, Translational Therapeutics, Respiratory Medicine and Rheumatology. Given the role of BCCH as a tertiary care centre, the medical staff in these Divisions not only provide direct on-site clinical care, but also act as a provincial resource for medical practitioners throughout British Columbia. Further, all Divisions are engaged in teaching, academic or clinical research, the scope of which collaboratively includes UBC, Sunny Hill Health Centre, C&W, and PHSA. The Department includes: Academic Faculty, Clinical Faculty, UBC Management, CUPE staff, C&W non contract staff, Non Union Technicians, Post Doc Fellows, Clinical Fellows, Residents and Medical Students.Work Performed-Provide assistance to the Principal Investigator and study team on two main projects and smaller related projects.-Preparation of REB submissions.-Creating and updating RedCAP databases, entering research data.-Data collection, data entry, data upload and verification.-Screening for study eligibility, recruiting participants and obtaining informed consent.-Prepare and maintain study sample inventory, prepare samples for analysis.-Coordinating study visits and completing orders and questionnaires/forms for study procedures.-Preparation and analysis of data for statistical analyses.-Conducting literature searches, maintaining literature databases.-Helping with manuscript and grant writing: figures, tables, references, proofreading, manuscript submission, etc.Consequence of Error/Judgement
The role will involve collection of sensitive information requiring attention to detail and accuracy to help ensure the integrity of the data gathered. Errors in judgement would impact negatively on the program’s reputation and productivity.Supervision Received

N/AMinimum Qualifications
-High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.-Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own-Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred Qualifications-Completion of a post-secondary program preferred; experience in clinical research would be an asset, especially with neuroimaging and MRI-Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities and deadlines with a strong focus in accuracy of work-Proficiency with REDCap and Qualtrics-Proficiency with computers and software applications such as, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat-Experience with patient recruitment into clinical research studies-Experience with Ethics Board (e.g., protocol submission, amendments, staff changes)-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills-High attention to detail, with superior organizational and time management skills-Highly developed analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills and a high level of judgment, tact and diplomacy in your interactions with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders-Well-developed time management skills and unfailing work ethics-Ability to problem solve effectively and work in a proactive manner-Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment
