Job description

The Qatar Centre for Global Banking & Finance is a research centre dedicated to the study of central banks and the challenges they face in the global environment. It aims to develop cutting-edge research in all areas of central bank policymaking, ranging from monetary policy to financial stability and regulation. The QCGBF is seeking to recruit a fixed-term fellow in the field of climate finance, risk and ESG to play a significant role in raising and contributing to the centre’s profile.   

The successful candidate will have a leading, demonstrable reputation in the field of climate finance. Namely providing guidance to financial institutions on matters of ESG, climate risk and stress testing. They should be well-informed of the rapidly- changing climate finance policy landscape. The QCGBF will provide the opportunity for the candidate to develop their research further, whilst providing a key contribution to the delivery of the Centre’s activities.  

This post will be offered on an fixed term contract for 12 months  

This is a Part-time post – 20% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities 

  • Contribute to raising the QCGBF profile and reputation through personal networks, profile-raising activities such as networking, centre events and research activity.
  • Support the QCGBF events portfolio through event promotion, event participation organisation and delivery.
  • Support the design of a climate finance course to be delivered at an MSc level or as executive education course, according to donor defined deliverables.
  • To support the QCGBF’s research in the area of climate, sustainable finance, and the impact of climate risks on the broader economy with specific focus on stress testing.
  • To contribute to the intellectual life of the school and its community of scholars, students and/or alumni.
  • To collaborate with the wider school, such as through interdisciplinary initiatives and helping advise on the establishment of the Sustainability Institute.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1.       Significant evidence of understanding and expertise and knowledge in the discipline of climate finance.

2.       Evidence of an extensive international network in the financial sector with a focus on individuals in the climate finance space.

3.       Expertise in the interaction between commodity and emissions markets, environmental regulatory frameworks, and the behavior of firms and consumers.

4.       A track-record of publishing guidance, reports and cutting-edge policy papers in the area of climate finance.

5.       Experience of educational delivery to central bankers at an executive education level.

6.       Willingness to collaborate with colleagues in the Qatar Centre for Global Banking and Finance, the wider Business School and the College. 

Desirable criteria

1.      Evidence of connections/networking ability with NGOs and other policy institutes influential in climate finance and sustainability
