Applications are invited for a 0.6FTE Research Fellow to work in the laboratory of Prof Sarah Newbury of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School.RNA stability plays a critical role in the control of gene expression by determining the levels of mRNA which can be translated into protein. The Research Fellow will carry out research into the role of the exoribonuclease DIS3L2 in the regulation of cellular stress in human cells.The project will also involve the analysis of in-vitro-transcribed RNAs for use in RNA therapeutics. The project has relevance to cancer as well as infectious disease and is also applicable to disease therapies and peptide production in industrial contexts.The Research Fellow will join an active and collaborative research group investigating the roles of ribonucleases and RNAs in cellular functions. The project is in collaboration with the group of Dr Ben Towler in the School of Life Sciences, University of Sussex.The post is based at the Medical Research Building, Falmer, BSMS, University of Sussex campus which is well equipped for the proposed research. There are also close to other research groups working in the area of RNA Biology across other Schools such as Life Sciences and the School of Applied Biosciences, University of Brighton.For this role, you should have a PhD (or close to completion) in biochemistry, molecular biology or a closely allied discipline.
