Environmental Health and WASH unit under the Health Systems and Population Studies Division has focused on determining and mitigating environmental pollution, evaluating WASH strategies for improved health, and generating evidence to understand the extent of environmental pollution and contamination in low-resource settings. The study will be a cluster randomized control trial. This study will implement the intervention among menstruating women and girls in households and assess the effect of intervention on MHH knowledge, practices, attitudes, intervention uptake, and reduced stigma. The position holder will be directly involved in the research activities under the Health System and Population Studies Division (HSPSD)

 Responsibilities:

The Research Officer will report to the Principle Investigator (PI) and will be responsible for supporting PI in preparing research concepts and protocols; planning, organizing, and directing for implementation of research activities; and writing reports and manuscripts with the objective of self-development and providing relevant research to icddr,b under the guidance and supervision of the supervisor and organizational values and guidelines. She/he will also be involved in –

  • Monitor the progress of research and escalate issues to the supervisor where needed;
  • Conduct literature review, systematic review, scoping review, analyze data and draw scientific inferences;
  • Create a detailed research design and methodology to achieve the study objectives;
  • Coordinate with internal teams to get resources for the execution of the project; 
  • Assign responsibilities to the team and initiate activities as per the project plan;
  • Circulate new protocol drafts internally and externally, seek feedback and modify accordingly;
  • Development of data collection tool;
  • Coordinate with Research Administration (RA) for approvals for research-related activities;
  • Conduct periodic field visits for coordination and mitigating operational challenges and work with PI in cost-tracking activities.
  • Prepare presentation slides and presentations in different scientific forums;
  • Prepare manuscript/research report for publication in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Liaise with government and non-government stakeholders in implementing project activities and developing collaboration.

Required qualification and experience:

  • Master’s in Public health with excellent academic records.
  • Outstanding academic results (at least 3.5 out of 4 scales both in Bachelor and Master) from reputed universities enlisted by the University Grant Commission of Bangladesh (UGC);
  • 3 years of relevant experience; 
  • Candidates with experience in menstrual health-related projects, conducting systematic or scoping reviews on MHH and reproductive health, a strong understanding of Intellectual Property and Copyright procedures, proposal and protocol writing, collaborating with both government and non-government stakeholders, and organizing consultative meetings will be preferred.
