About the Opportunity

As Research Regulatory Coordinator for NU-RES Administration and Compliance, this position supports the research community by coordinating various administrative functions related to non-financial award acceptance and management.  The Research Regulatory Coordinator reports to the Associate Director for Research Compliance but works closely with the NU-RES Administration, Finance, and Data Systems teams.

The Research Regulatory Coordinator is responsible for understanding and making appropriate application of federal regulations and funding agency policies related to extramurally funded research and sponsored programs.   This position communicates directly with faculty, investigators and administrators to assist them in establishing and managing their awards.  

The Research Regulatory Coordinator provides operational support, including data management and reporting, for the following activities:

  • Award Setup: Responsible for initiating award setup process. Corresponds with investigators and finance about new funding. Enters awards into University databases.

  • Award-related research compliance:  Coordinates the review and tracks approvals of award specific terms and conditions, e.g., IRB, IACUC, IBC, fCOI, RCR; updates and maintains relevant information in respective databases.   Interfaces with relevant regulatory offices to ensure approvals are in place prior to account set up. Assists unit leadership with the development of standard operating procedures and process improvements.

  • Financial Conflicts of Interest:  Responsibilities include the verification and tracking of fCOI required training and annual/on-going disclosures by investigators. Triages escalations to college contacts and Compliance.

  • Serves as a liaison with investigators and administrators on award-related verification of compliance related matters, including fCOI and RCR or other required trainings.

  • Assists unit leadership with outreach, education and training activities, including contributions to the NU-RES websites and on special projects; related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

Excellent work-ethic, self-motivation, strong reading comprehension and attention to detail; organizational, analytical and communication (oral and written) skills as well as effective problem-solving skills; demonstrated commitment to providing responsive, positive and effective support for investigators and college administrators. Ability to work well independently and on a team.  

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or health related field and 1-3 years of administrative/regulatory experience preferably in an academic organization; general knowledge of regulatory compliance areas (IRB/IACUC/IBC, fCOI, RCR, export controls, etc.), Knowledge of extramural funding agencies policies and familiarity with applicable regulations (OMB Uniform Guidance, FAR).  Adaptive technology skills, including working with Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Excel, Coeus, (or similar software applications).

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

80% – Award acceptance and regulatory compliance coordination:  communication and coordinate with investigators and college administrators to secure required information; coordinate review and approval with relevant units (e.g., IRB, IACUC, IBC, OGC, Risk Services, etc.); data entry, prepare operational and analytical reports.

10% – Financial Conflicts of Interest (fCOI):  communicate with investigators and administrators to document all required training and disclosures have been made; file reports with agencies as required; data entry, prepare operational and analytical reports

10% – Outreach and related duties:  Assist Directors with process improvements and educational materials and opportunities for the research community.
