Position Summary
Position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments in a bacteriology laboratory and basic laboratory management of the Rosen lab under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment and lab materials.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning including ordering supplies, chemical inventory, safety protocols, mouse breeding, and preparation of common reagents.
  • Assists with mouse experiments and maintains mouse colonies (breeding, weaning, and record keeping).
  • Performs molecular biology experiments (PCR/qPCR/RT-PCR, Western blots, DNA and RNA purification, cloning, plasmid preps) and protein purification.
  • Performs cell biology experiments (preparation of samples for flow cytometry analysis, immunofluorescent/histochemical staining of samples).
  • Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
  • Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.

Working Conditions/Schedule

Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals. Some weekend hours required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. 
  • Superior organizational and time management skills. 
  • Ability to follow research protocols is highly preferred.
  • Willing to work with rodents. 
  • Experience in bacteriology or flow cytometry.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and up to 1 year of experience in a laboratory setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 4 years.

Salary Range
$16.59 – $25.92 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
