Apply today to join our team!As a Respiratory Therapist at Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Be responsible for the assessment of clients and their oxygen systems in their homes, clinics, or other community settings.
  • Perform ongoing respiratory care to clients with a variety of illnesses/diseases including, but not limited to acute and/or chronic respiratory illnesses or pathologies of the airway.
  • Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.
  • Liaises with internal and external partners regarding the implementation of care and therapies of clients including home oxygen equipment.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement and best practice approach in respiratory practice.
  • Maintain and advances own clinical competence.
  • Participates on committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

QualificationsEducation & Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada (HPTC) Credentialing Exam.
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License. Local area travel requires use of a personal vehicle for which mileage reimbursement is paid.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of The National Alliance of Respiratory Therapy Regulatory Bodies (NARTRB) National Competency Framework.
  • Broad knowledge of current respiratory care theory and practices within a client/family centred model of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to work independently and to develop/maintain collaborative working relationships within a multi-disciplinary service delivery model.
  • Proven ability to adapt to the changing health system and understanding of the broad determinants of health.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care, and to respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Skill in the use of respiratory and other equipment and techniques appropriate to the area of specialty.
  • General of knowledge Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Computer literacy in the use of common computer applications.
  • Ability to physically perform the duties of the position.
