SUMMARY OF POSITION:
- Working as part of the Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability team within Global Supply Chain, this role leads Kimberly-Clark’s efforts to create Better Care for a Better World through execution of a strategy to continuously improve the sustainability of the forest and agriculturally derived materials in its essential products.
- This position enables Kimberly-Clark’s sustainability and responsible sourcing strategies by engaging suppliers and other external stakeholders to create and deploy more sustainable solutions, developing/deploying business processes and controls to maintain operational compliance with relevant policies and regulatory requirements, reporting on progress, and providing strategic subject matter expertise.
- The incumbent must apply knowledge of responsible forest management, forest certification, carbon management (including Forest, Land, and Agriculture (FLAG) emissions), biodiversity protection, land use, and local community and indigenous people’s expectations.
- The incumbent will actively partner with internal teams, including Research & Engineering, Supply Chain Operations, Procurement, and external stakeholders including suppliers, ENGOs, certifiers, investors and others catalyze systems change and innovation that prevents deforestation and forest degradation while addressing customer/consumer expectations.
This requires a healthy command of leadership, influence, change management and strategic planning skills. A bias for action and program management that delivers positive outcomes is a must.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Sustainable Forest Management and Certification – Provide leadership and subject matter expertise in the identification and analysis of trends, technologies, business models, processes and/or market expectations to drive identification and deployment of sustainable forest management solutions in K-C’s supply chain.
- Forest Footprint Reduction and Pipeline – Maintain and manage the forest footprint roadmap and pipeline of initiatives required to deliver annual, 3-year and 2030 forest footprint reduction objectives. These initiatives include alternative fibers development and innovation/product design change impacts from Research & Engineering with executable changes led by Supply Chain and Brand Marketing.
- Supplier Engagement. Actively guide and influence forest and agriculture materials suppliers to expand and continuously improve sustainable forestry and agricultural management practices accounting for impacts on primary and intact forests, biodiversity, indigenous people’s rights, land conversion, and climate change.
- Compliance and Conformance. Monitor and evaluate regulatory standards and K-C policy requirements in program scope (e.g. EUDR), assessing impacts to the company and its suppliers, and guiding development & deployment of operational processes and controls. Lead engagement and due diligence activities with suppliers to assure compliance and conformance with regulations, standards, and policies.
- Communications. Guide development of Kimberly-Clark’s technical and strategic positioning related to sustainable and responsible operations and sourcing of forest- and agriculturally derived materials. Provide subject matter expertise and leadership in customer, investor, and stakeholder engagements.
- Metrics and Cross-Functional Alignment – Deploy metrics/targets and supporting data management/analytics platforms aligned with market and regulatory expectations in a manner that facilitates cross-functional collaboration that aligns Research & Engineering, Supply Chain, and Marketing teams.
- Reporting/Disclosures – Manages internal and external reporting obligations and ensure the highest fidelity in external disclosures, communications and marketing related to forest and agriculture materials.
- Externally Facing Representative – Represent K-C on leading NGO, government or industry association advisory bodies that are shaping Forestry and Agriculture issues. Foster relationships with external groups (governmental agencies, NGOs, industry groups, scientific organizations, collaboration platforms) in order to stay abreast of externalities impacting the business and to build strategic partnerships.
- Business Acumen – Work cross-functionally, across a matrixed environment, using leadership, influence, and business acumen to evaluate risks and opportunities and propose appropriate courses of action, adhering to high ethical standards in the creation and execution of responsible sourcing and forest footprint reduction initiatives. Collaborate with internal functions including Research and Engineering, Supply Chain, Marketing, Government Relations and Legal to align on strategic direction and business plans to deliver goals. Effectively manage multiple priorities, make decisions, and drive solutions quickly and efficiently, working independently as well as within a variety of teams.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Global travel up to 25% of the work time. Travel may also include business travels via aircrafts and motor vehicles to various locations. Role is preferably based at the Roswell Innovation Center K-C location in Roswell, GA.
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, sustainable business, or equivalent degree (e.g., biology, forestry, agroforestry, economics, finance), or equivalent experience in forestry or agriculture industries.
- 10+ years of experience in a sustainability/ corporate social responsibility or compliance-related field, typically in support of a manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, or forests/ agricultural products company.
- 5+ years in product or program management/ product design for environment/ product environmental and social regulatory compliance.
- Strong business acumen, influence, and change management expertise.
- Knowledge/experience of the various areas related to sustainable forest management, forests and agriculture regulation, due diligence and reporting frameworks, goal setting initiatives, and certification systems.
- Knowledge/experience with life cycle analysis, environmental risk assessment and supporting software tools; understanding and capacity to advise on forestry and agriculture issues.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment with a focus on strategy deployment and performance management, knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a manufacturing and/or CPG environment.
- Master’s degree in environmental science, engineering, sustainable business, or equivalent degree (e.g., biology, forestry, agroforestry, economics, finance), or equivalent experience in forestry or agriculture industries.
