Overview:High Tide Inc., a leading cannabis retailer and accessory company, seeks a passionate and detail-oriented Retail – Health & Safety Advisor for our Calgary office. This is a new role to support our growing organization! You will be responsible for providing safety leadership, collaboration, support, and coordination throughout our company. This position will report to the Vice President. Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation of Health and Safety Management initiatives and processes to build an organization-wide safety culture.
  • Lead in the development of company Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems, perform training need analysis, and recommend the changes to the business.
  • Oversee the documentation of incident files to ensure compliance with regulatory, internal and WCB and safety inspector audits.
  • Support incident investigations and reporting in finding fundamental root causes, identify proper corrective actions, ensure follow-up, and collaborate, as required.
  • Liaison with training team to ensure compliance and training certification by each province.
  • OHS training certification updates across all stores.
  • Monthly inspection review and liaison with stakeholders to mention any safety concerns.
  • Ensure all emergency evacuation plans for all sites are posted for current and NSOs, liaison with compliance and construction team on an as needed basis.
  • Ensure all near misses, robbery and break in protocols are created and followed by operational leaders.
  • Working alone policy reviews are updated for all provinces in Canada.
  • Gather, organize, analyze, and report out on a variety of safety performance and compliance data.
  • Manage OHS inspector visits and work with local leaders and workers to ensure timely closing of contact orders.
  • Manage all on-line safety compliance websites and training processes for retail staff.
  • Deal with any complaints regarding right to refuse unsafe work across Canada. Develop protocol as needed and documents in collaboration with HR team.
  • Provide guidance, support, and direction for HSE related issues, including compliance with safety regulations and investigation into incidents.
  • Provide guidance to incident investigations ensuring causal factors are identified and corrective actions are documented and communicated.
  • Develop, lead, and manage the KPI process/budget including action plans as needed to address concerns.
  • Maintain all safety related policies and procedures and oversee imputation into business practice.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health Safety Act for retail and distribution and Cannabis Act for all provinces in Canada, the Traffic Safety Act for AB, BC, MB, SK and ON. (All Canadian provinces as needed).
  • Knowledge of applicable HSE regulations, codes, practices, and standards.
  • Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications).
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate well with others and create effective working relationships on all levels (internal/external).
  • Familiarity with provincial OSHA inspection and Audit process is an asset.
  • Ensure all first aid certification is up to date for all worksites.
  • Become train the trainer as needed by the business.

Years of Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in a similar role is required.
  • Experience in retail and distribution sector is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge about cannabis legislation of all provinces.

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of a college or university degree in a related field; specifically, certification in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred.
  • NCSO, CRSP, CTSP, or OHS designation is preferred.
  • COR Audit certification through AMTA (required within 6 months of employment).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Clean police record check.
  • Ability to get regional cannabis licenses in AB, BC, MB, SK and ON.
