In collaboration with the Director Patient Access, Director of Pre-Arrival Unit, Revenue Cycle Managers and Revenue Cycle Supervisor, develops best practice-based Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Patient Access/Pre-Arrival Unit workflows. Engages with stakeholders including HIT, Revenue Cycle Training, and clinic operations during SOP development to ensure operational alignment. Trains Patient Access/Pre-Arrival Unit team members on new and revised workflows through on going at the elbow support and monitoring. Evaluates adherence to SOPs and operational quality by analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data. Helps in the implementing of system enhancements and performs subsequent follow up and reporting of the Registration and Scheduling systems.

  • Identify and develop best practice-based Patient Access/Pre-Arrival Unit workflows (workflows, SOPs, tools).
  • Provide operational workflow training classes on a regular and as-needed basis for Patient Access/Pre-Arrival. Observe staff working on Patient Access/Pre-Arrival Unit functions in work setting and provide real-time support and training on best practice workflows
  • Identify KPIs for Patient Access/Pre-Arrival Unit workflows and monitor data to identify adherence to operational workflows and areas needing additional support. Participate in root cause analysis initiatives for denials management.
  •  Audit Patient Access, Financial Counseling, Scheduling and Pre-Arrival operations to identify individual areas for improvement across Patient Access/Pre-Arrival Unit by auditing missing registration items WQ’s, claim WQ’s, and account WQ’s deemed useful for auditing team member performance.

  • Monitor denial reports to identify opportunities for improvement based on registration and authorization denial trends.
  • Serves as training representative for interdisciplinary projects as assigned. Subject matter expert stays up to date on all registration processes and workflows.
  • Performs time studies, where applicable to identify issues in the process prohibiting productivity and/or causing excessive denials.
  • Provides weekly reporting to Supervisors regarding quality and audit checks on employees.
  •  Manage IT tickets for improvements.  
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties as assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $45,656.00 – $70,761.60 Annual

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School or equivalent required. Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred in education, health or IT related majors

Experience: 3 years relevant experience in a Patient Access Role, Pre-Arrival Unit Role, Epic Registration Training, Revenue Cycle at UVA Health System.

Licensure: Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) or Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) by the NAHAM, required within 18 months of hire date – NAHAM

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion, computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 – 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
