Job Summary The Rink Operator/Groundskeeper I will be responsible for assisting the Ice Arena Facilities Team Leader and Assistant Manager of Grounds and Landscaping to perform daily work in the ice arena and groundskeeping duties on campus.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform groundskeeping duties on campus through the use of gas powered and hand held equipment, tools and machines.
  • Maintaining a quality sheet of ice
  • Assisting with ice installation and removal
  • Preparing ice for all practices, games and other ice events. Duties include: removing debris; checking ice depth; scraping, edging and resurfacing ice.
  • Participate in set-up and disassembly of hockey glass, and dasher boards/kick plates,
  • Safe and efficient driving of the Zamboni.
  • Maintain arena’s cleanliness to optimal levels.
  • Assist with Grounds maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the Manager of Grounds & Landscaping or Assistant Manager of Grounds and Landscaping

Hourly rate: $18.00 – $20.00/per hour (This position is eligible for overtime and shift differentials).

Education/Skills Requirements Required:

  • High School or GED equivalent.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must have good communication skills; be able to get along with co-workers, supervisors and building occupants; and be able to work.
  • Adherence to safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of proper equipment usage to ensure safety.
  • Willingness to adjust work schedules based on the needs of the grounds.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents Required:

  • 6-months – 1 year of experience in groundskeeping and/or landscaping, mowing, edging, pruning, and maintaining lawns.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the requirements of the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
  • This position requires a criminal background check and pre-placement physical.
  • Experience in mowing, edging, pruning, and maintaining lawns.
  • Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience operating a Zamboni ice resurfacer or light construction equipment.
Standard Work Days and Hours
  • Normal working hours are Monday – Friday 7am to 3:30pm.
  • Evening and weekend shifts are required during special events and heavy seasonal workloads.
  • This position is essential and will be required to work during emergencies and/or holidays.
  • The anticipated start date the for candidate selected will be on or after January 8, 2024.
