Sample Reception Team LeaderRPS Laboratories are seeking a Sample Reception Team leader to join our state-of-the-art laboratory based in Bedford. This is a permanent, full-time role with a fixed working pattern of 8:00am to 4:00pm to meet timings of deliveries.As Sample Reception Team Leader, you will work as part of and manage a team of Sample Reception Officers, who will be responsible for overseeing incoming work, reviewing, and booking in samples to ensure correct details are recorded and client requirements are understood and overall maintenance of the sample reception areas.About The Team:RPS Laboratories is a team of Analysts, Chemists, and Technicians that operate from purpose-built laboratory facilities which have a long history of providing expert advice and analytical solutions to the agrochemical sector. Our laboratories enjoy an international reputation for solving complex and novel analytical problems in a wide variety of food, feed, and forage crops.We have state-of-the-art laboratories in Bedford and Manchester:· Our Manchester laboratory was one of the first laboratories in the UK to gain MCERTS accreditation for the analysis of stack emissions.· Our Bedford laboratory was one of the first laboratories in the UK to gain UKAS accreditation for the analysis of PFAS chemicals following the monitoring required at the Buncefield oil terminal.About You:As a key member of the Laboratories business, your role as a Sample Reception Team Leader is critical to helping us conduct investigations and formulate effective solutions to help our clients comply with international quality standards, maximum residue limits (MRLs), environmental regulations, and much more.By joining us you will collaborate with our clients, to design a tailored analytical programme to meet their complex regulatory needs. Leveraging our state-of-the-art instrumentation. You will be influential in providing analytical support during the remediation and clean-up project and subsequent routine monitoring.Your Responsibilities:

  • Daily management of the Team to ensure team members are equipped to perform their duties smoothly and can achieve on-time delivery to the required level of quality
  • Responsible for overall management of samples in the laboratory including receiving and logging samples into LIMS, sample storage and disposal
  • Organisation of storage areas to ensure sufficient area is available for storing samples and samples are readily accessible
  • Follow procedures to perform basic sample preparation and analysis
  • Ensure that the Team is trained and competent to perform duties as required
  • Monitor and manage all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), challenges, risks and opportunities for the Team and communicate this to Senior Management in respective management meetings
  • Communicate resource requirements throughout the year and for developing annual operating budgets
  • Provide support to the Laboratory, Logistics and Project Coordination teams when required

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • An interest in science, preferably with qualifications related to the science field
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment would be desirable
  • Good attention to detail and ability to cope under pressure
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision independently as well as part of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience of working in a laboratory setting would be advantageous
  • Experience of working with a LIMS software programme would be highly desirable
  • Experience of line management responsibility would be advantageous
