About Us: The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) leads the way in setting ambitious corporate climate action standards. We’re on a mission to enable businesses worldwide to align their emissions reduction targets with the latest climate science, striving for a net-zero future. As we expand our influence across Europe, we seek a seasoned Engagement Regional Lead to spearhead our efforts, ensuring the relevance and credibility of our standards in the European market.

The Role: This isn’t your typical engagement role. As the Engagement Regional Lead, you’ll be at the forefront of high-level discussions, providing nuanced insights into the application of SBTi standards within diverse European contexts. You’ll navigate complex regulatory landscapes, liaising directly with corporate leaders and sector bodies to advocate for science-based target setting. This role demands a blend of strategic thinking, meticulous understanding of our standards, and the agility to address and incorporate feedback from the European market back to the SBTi team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Engagement: Identify and prioritise key markets, sectors, and organisations for engagement. Develop and execute insight and partnership strategies to promote the adoption of SBTi standards.
  • High-Level Interaction: Engage with C-suite executives and other senior stakeholders, managing important conversations filtered to you. Comfortably handle discussions with irritated or challenging stakeholders without compromising the integrity of SBTi standards.
  • Market Insight: Deeply understand the European market’s unique challenges in applying SBTi standards. Collaborate with our new tech support team for initial filtering of inquiries, focusing your expertise on strategic engagements and problem-solving.
  • Standard Advocacy: Serve as the face of SBTi to companies and industry bodies, providing expert guidance on target setting and sustainability practices. Lead efforts to align our standards with local regulations and corporate strategies.
  • Team Leadership: Guide and support the regional team, including direct oversight of critical roles such as the Impact Evidence Manager. Drive the creation of annual impact reports and forward-looking projections, emphasizing strategic focus areas like potential shifts towards markets with high-impact potential.

What You Bring:

  • Experience: International, European experience in a senior position, leading on engagement with corporations, industry bodies, and councils, helping them to set standards or navigate a standard-setting process in the climate change space. Preferably a good knowledge of SBTi standards and its sectors. It’s a responsible position, requiring min. 7 years of experience in corporate sustainability, ESG consulting, or related fields. A proven track record of engaging with companies and organisations on sustainability initiatives.
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of GHG emissions accounting, corporate mitigation strategies, and the SBTi standards. Willingness and ability to deep dive into technical documents and regulatory frameworks.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional public speaking and writing abilities. Comfortable and effective in communicating complex concepts to non-expert audiences and senior executives alike.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated experience in managing diverse stakeholder groups and leading teams. A visionary leader who is proactive, energetic, and ready to engage with a broad spectrum of individuals and organisations.
  • Cultural Competence: Ability to work collaboratively in a culturally and geographically diverse environment. Fluency in additional European languages besides English is a significant advantage.

What We Offer:

  • A dynamic role at the heart of global climate action initiatives.
  • The opportunity to shape high-ambition corporate climate strategies in Europe.
  • A competitive salary range (48,000 – 68,000 GBP) based on experience, with a comprehensive benefits package.
  • A collaborative, innovative, and highly motivated team environment.

Application Process: If you’re ready to lead the charge in driving high-ambition corporate climate action across Europe, we want to hear from you. Please send your resume, cover letter, and salary expectations to Kris Kobi at k.
