Whilst Arup has traditionally had a very impressive reputation designing in the built environment to counter naturally occurring threats (flood, earthquake, fire, etc.), Arup has also established an expert team called the Resilience Security and Risk team to counter malicious manmade threats. Included in that team is a specialist Security System Engineering team, that complements other specialist capabilities such as counter-terrorist design, blast engineering, protective intelligence, hostile vehicle mitigation measures, operational resilience, and technical risk.To ensure this, we take a risk-based approach to all our work and seek to make sure that security solutions are both appropriate, proportionate and commensurate with the threats, shocks and stresses any organisation could experience. We, therefore, work closely with other disciplines in Arup to find solutions that meet these objectives and are sustainable in their implementation.Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!The OpportunityWe are looking for an enthusiastic and capable BIM Technician to Join our London team. Such specialists should have a strong foundation in system design, particularly in security or a related area of expertise where system design is at the centre of our work to deliver innovative solutions.Working within the Resilience Security and Risk team, you will proactively innovate, solve problems, and engage with design development. The duties within this role will be design-based, CAD and BIM data preparation, data management, 3D data modelling, data analysis, mapping, and the production of visualisations across our broad range of projects.Typical activities would include: Designing and annotating security systems on projects such as Data Centres, Transport hubs, and energy sector; Coordination of systems and associated networks with other design team members in accordance with the client’s requirements and Government best practice when applicable; Managing and contributing to centrally managed models or drawing sets; Assisting other security design specialists with BIM-related activity such as Information security and dissemination; Developing and managing BIM Execution Plans (BEP).At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.Is this role right for you?We are seeking individuals with a qualification such as BTEC ONC / HNC in Building Services Engineering or higher/ EngTech qualification would be desirable. Background knowledge in design and delivery of integrated solutions using state of the art technology applicable to security design will be required.You will Experienced in providing technical support for Revit and other 3D applications with working knowledge of 2D and 3D modelling software/Proficient in the creation and modification of REVIT files. The role will involve modelling on a range of Security systems including containment.The successful candidate will be conversant in designing in the BIM environment to BIM LD300 (Preferably both MicroStation and Revit) and be able to provide guidance to fellow consultants on delivery and the security considerations along with setting up and model management of project models in accordance with project standards.The following skills and knowledge will be of interest:

  • Programming skills (Dynamo, Python, C++ etc)
  • Familiarity with the RIBA stages of design/ BREEAM and LEED assessment processes
  • Awareness of security design principles and guiding bodies such as CPNI and Specialist Police units
  • Interest in global current affairs particular to criminality and terrorism
  • Understand the implications of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – 17 goals to transform our world, in the delivery of projects.
  • Knowledge of BIM and how BS EN ISO 19650, PAS 1192, and BS 1192 apply to Security system design.
  • Deep knowledge of draughtsman’s standard (Sheet layout / format, naming conventions, line weights, colours etc.)
