This is an exciting opportunity to join the Seed Collections Team at the Millennium Seed Bank (MSB), Wakehurst. The post will support the delivery of the “Global Tree Seed Bank – Unlocked” the fourth phase of Kew’s exciting initiative to secure, research, and make available, seed collections from the world’s most important and threatened tree species.
The postholder will join the Seed Collections Team and will support the aims of the ‘Global Tree Seed Bank: Unlocked’ programme by enabling the use of seed collections stored at the MSB. The role will support the Seed Collections Manager by covering the administration associated with importing and exporting seed collections and other plant materials to and from the UK and by distributing seeds ordered through the online MSB Seed List. By coordinating seed movements to and from the Millennium Seed Bank, the post-holder will ensure that seed batches arrive safely following national and international legislation, and that seed requests are dispatched efficiently to customers in the UK and around the world. There is also the potential for this position to line manage other staff members in the team as the post develops and the workload expands as expected.

Educated to degree level in a biological subject with experience of working in science, you will have experience of working successfully in a fast-paced, high workload environment and working collaboratively as part of a team. You will also have experience of maintaining administrative systems and procedures and of using and updating databases.
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the confidence to work with people at different levels of the organisation and externally with customers and other organisations. Competent in the use of MS Office (including Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint) and databases, such as MS Access, you will have good attention to detail and accuracy.
Knowledge of UK Plant Health and CITES legislation and its application to seed collections would be an advantage. As would an understanding of seed bank practices and experience of working in a laboratory environment.
This role is based at the Millenium Seed Bank at Wakehurst with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.

The salary will be £30,200 per annum pro-rata.
