Hybrid work environments with onsite requirements.Flexible work location: Open to all offices across Canada, with a preference for Edmonton, AB.The opportunityThe primary focus of this role is to assist with the preparation of the quarterly and annual CWB Group consolidated financial documents and disclosures. This role will also support and complete Finance-related projects involving sophisticated transactions and business initiatives within the confines of IFRS and other regulatory reporting frameworks. The Sr Accountant collaborates closely with internal and external advisors to ensure satisfaction of business needs and compliance with reporting requirements.The day to day…External Financial Statements & DisclosuresContribute to the preparation of the quarterly and annual publicly issued consolidated financial statements, including the financial statement note disclosures in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”).Prepare various supplementary schedules for the MD&A, Investor Relations presentations, Annual Information Return and Annual Report.Work closely with other departments that impact or contribute to the timely and accurate production of financial statements, to review and analyze supporting schedules and seek ways to improve current reporting efficiency and accuracy.Build and maintain accurate audit documentation of financial reporting processes and controls including workflows, source of information, frequency, and purpose of the processes.Execute on objectives to ensure successful completion of projects led or supported by Finance, including:Provide technical expertise and leadership in IFRS.Develop accounting position papers related to complex transactions and accounting standard changes;Implement and document research and recommendations for approval and communication to the Finance leadership team;Develop processes and procedures to support operational changes within the Finance team;Seek out industry trends and organizational knowledge to understand alternative approaches and/or solutions.Accounting Projects & ResearchAssist with the gathering of business requirements, planning of projects, including scope and requirement changes.Assist with project communications including status and project progress reports to the Board, executives, stakeholders, business divisions, vendors, project team, etc. by providing inputs in a timely and accurate manner.Liaise with external advisors to ensure that recommendations are aligned with industry standards.Clearly document assumptions and recommendations in a manner that is traceable and auditable.Work closely with the Finance team and other stakeholders to develop and document applicable accounting policies and procedures.Successful incumbentSomeone who thrives with clear individual accountabilities, succeeds in an independent role within a team-oriented, fast-paced environment and is looking for an opportunity to grow. To establish credibility and success, this individual is relied upon to be highly responsive while consistently delivering accurate and timely work.Foundational knowledge and experience to grow fromBachelor of Commerce and/or Business Administration degreeCPA designation3 to 5 years of technical accounting experience, combined with a strong understanding of IFRS.Proficiency with Microsoft ExcelExperience working in a public company, or within the Financial Industry considered an asset.Put your career in the spotlight.
