IMC UK was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in England and Wales on July 2, 2002, and registered as a charitable organisation with the Charity Commission on September 19, 2002. Activities commenced on November 1, 2002. IMC UK’s mission is to provide humanitarian assistance, healthcare and training to communities affected by disasters, conflict, and poverty, so they can return to self-reliance. The Charity is an independent affiliate of International Medical Corps, a US-registered nonprofit organisation that shares the same mission, and International Medical Corps Croatia, an association registered in Croatia.The Senior Advisor, Investigations is a key role within the International Medical Corps Compliance Investigations Unit, tasked with conducting, overseeing, and directing complex and high-risk internal investigations. This position involves providing strategic guidance, mentoring, and ensuring that investigations are conducted with utmost integrity, thoroughness, and professionalism. It also requires the ability to effectively manage stressful environments originating from the job. The Senior Advisor Investigations works closely with the Director of Investigations to set priorities, ensure best practices, and foster a culture of compliance and ethics across the organization.MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIESEthics and Compliance Department Overarching Responsibilities:
· Lead efforts to promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the organization.
· Champion transparency, communication, and teamwork aligned with the Ethics and Compliance Charter and departmental objectives.
Investigations:
· Lead high-risk and complex investigations into allegations of fraud, abuse, corruption, waste, and violations of International Medical Corps’ policies and procedures.
· Conduct investigations into allegations of safeguarding and HR-related issues when required. Provide expert guidance and direction to Compliance Investigators, both internal and, when necessary, externally contracted investigative resources, and field teams on investigation methodologies and best practices.
· Develop comprehensive action plans that outline the scope, timing, and direction of investigations.
· Conduct field visits and gather relevant evidence and information from various sources.
· Review and analyse evidence and documents to draw valid conclusions and formulate recommendations.
· Conduct and oversee interviews, ensuring they are documented meticulously.
· Produce and review professional investigation reports with actionable recommendations.
· Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all investigative processes and acquired information.Communication:
· Prepares communication and interacts with donors, regulatory bodies and other third-parties regarding compliance investigations as directed
· Independently prepare and present updates on internal investigations to senior leadership and other relevant departments.
Capacity Building and Training:
· Design and deliver advanced training programs on Fraud, Bribery, Conflicts of Interest, and other relevant topics to International Medical Corps staff and partners.
· Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in global compliance and the NGO sector, incorporating new knowledge into training materials and investigative practices.
· Mentor and provide professional development opportunities to International Medical Corps staff.
· Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Legal, Human Resources) to ensure comprehensive support for investigations and compliance initiatives.
Other Responsibilities:
· Analyse investigation data and trends to inform strategic decision-making and policy improvement.
· Contribute to the continuous enhancement of the investigations unit’s processes and standards.
· Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support or improve the operations of the investigation’s unit.
· Actively promote the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) standards within International Medical Corps and among beneficiaries.
Compliance & Ethics:
· Uphold and promote a culture of compliance and ethics throughout the International Medical Corps.
· Maintain a clear understanding of and adherence to International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards.
· Communicate these standards to staff and partners, ensuring they adhere to them consistently.Perform other duties as assigned. · Typically, a degree in Business Administration, Fraud Management, Law, or Accounting. Equivalent combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered.
· Certified Fraud Examiner Certificate
· Extensive and proven relevant experience in humanitarian relief/sector.
· Strong ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism.
· Proven ability to lead high-risk investigations, analyze complex facts, and present concise, clear reports in English.
· Experience in effectively leading and directing investigative staff.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing
· Experience and background in Forensic Accounting
