We are looking for a Senior Advisor – Remediation to join the Kennecott Environment Team. The Senior Advisor – Remediation will support CERCLA (Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act) processes and will provide technical expertise and guidance for the environmental team. The Senior Advisor will support state and federal regulatory compliance, Rio Tinto standards, and best practices.
Reporting directly to the Principal Advisor – Remediation and working in a diverse team, this role will focus on long-term strategy and regulatory agency process management related to CERCLA and overall strategy execution. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Decision analysis and strategy development
- Context on project execution planning, sequencing, and identification of risks and opportunities
- Professional stakeholder engagement
- Develop and support CERCLA operations and maintenance plans, including the development of monitoring and response plans.
- Supports engagement with the Utah Division of Response and Remediation (DERR) and EPA Region 8
- Provide strategic and technical insight on remediation projects
- Support the Environment Team with permits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Rio Tinto standards.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to drive efficiencies related to regulatory compliance across Kennecott.
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a similar field
- Five years of experience in a role with regulatory accountabilities
- Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations associated with environmental remediation
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of CERCLA processes and understanding of regulatory documents
- Strong proficiency in technical writing
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to and support short and long-term planning
- Demonstrated ability to solicit, negotiate, and implement partnerships with operations customers
- Demonstrated ability in effective communication

Where you’ll be working
Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
