An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Assistant Respiratory Physiologist to join the Respiratory Physiology team to assist with the delivery of lung function, sleep, bronchoscopy and pleural intervention services.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will work within the team to assist with the delivery of lung function, sleep, bronchoscopy and pleural intervention services, with or without direct supervision from a qualified Physiologist.Quality assured spirometry is provided in both hospital and community settings.The post holder will assist with the sleep service, to include the posting out of equipment and ensuring its return.In addition, the post holder will assist with general duties such as administration, the unpacking of stock and replenishment of supplies and other appropriate duties to support the physiology team with their workload.About usKing’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching Trusts with a turnover of £1 billion, 1.5 million patient contacts a year and around 15,000 staff based across 5 main sites in South East London. - Performing a range of diagnostic tests including quality assured spirometry, gas transfer and lung volume measurement on both adults and children
- Loaning and maintenance of nebuliser equipment to patients
- Performing routine maintenance, calibration and quality control of all laboratory equipment
Sleep Investigation
- The cleaning, preparation and issue of sleep monitoring equipment to patients for and ensuring the return of the equipment
- Downloading overnight oximetry and WatchPAT studies.
- Posting out of overnight oximeters to patients and ensuring their return
- Posting out of equipment required for patients requiring home ventilatory support
- Cleaning of all equipment that been returned from home loan so that it is fit to be loaned to further patients
- Taking equipment to the Medical Equipment Maintenance Department to ensure that it is accepted and serviced as required.
Bronchoscopy and Pleural Intervention
- Assisting with the provision of bronchscopy and pleural intervention services for Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
- Care and support of patients and relatives before, during and after the procedure.
- Dispatching specimens to pathology reception
- Assisting in the end of list procedures to ensure that the bronchoscopy suite is clean and tidy and ready for use.
- Responsibility for adherence to local infection control policies within the bronchoscopy suite.
- Assisting in maintenance of the cardiac arrest trolley
General Duties
- Answering telephone enquiries, which may involve making appointments, reading results, answering patient queries or redirecting calls to the appropriate person.
- Answering the Department intercom system. Greeting patients on arrival in a pleasant and informative manner.
- Making appointments, sending out confirmation letters and information leaflets for lung function tests.
- Escorting/ collecting patients to and from wards
- Unpacking, storing and replenishing supplies
- Undertaking any additional appropriate duties to assist the Physiologists with their workload.
