What You’ll Do
Are you passionate about the intersection of user experience and design and looking for an role that provides input on the digital strategy and goals for online properties and mobile applications, supporting our enterprise and business unit strategies?
As a part of Principal’s User Experience and Strategy team, the selected candidate will conduct user-centered research, design user-centered interfaces, and collaborate on user experience (UX) strategy, while having the opportunity to be mentored by experienced UX Designers.

- With guidance, design how customers interact with the interface, considering interactive elements and how the customer would enable them. Gain basic foundational skills in visual/graphic design best practices, as well as learning and keeping up with the latest design trends.
- Design, write, edit, test, and publish moderately complex websites and online systems. Build relationships with internal business partners by consulting, identifying needs, and recommending solutions for information architecture.
- Ensure content and information architecture support the business unit and company goals and are consistent with the overall digital strategy.
- Adept with using visual/graphic communication as a method for expressing concepts using standard industry tools
- Utilize various research methods to gain a better understanding of how to get to insights and solutions the fastest, with some guidance. (Customer interviews, Surveys, Card sorts, Data analytics, Behavioral analysis). Learn when move from secondary research, to primary research, as well as conceptual to usability research.
- Communicate complex interaction concepts clearly and persuasively, across different audiences and varying levels.
- Strengthening the ability to give constructive feedback as well as facilitate critiques and collaboration.
- Demonstrate understanding of business and customer-centric strategies by providing insight into design and posing questions to clarify
- Represent UX team by participating in BU and/or XBU special projects and assignments.
- With guidance, provide design, research and testing recommendations to stakeholders to gain alignment.

Who You Are
- Degree, Associate’s or Bachelor’s, in graphic design, human computer interaction, management information systems, design-related field or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience performing user experience (UX) strategy and design user-centered experiences resulting in:
- Expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and XD
- Proficiency with web and mobile prototyping tools, such as Adobe XD, Sketch, InVision, Axure, or related software
- Knowledge of web analytics (ie: Google Analytics 360, Adobe Analytics, etc.) and/or behavioral analytics (ie: HotJar, SessionCam, MouseFlow, etc.) tools
- A designer’s mindset, including empathy, compassion, and curiosity along with the desire to strive for the highest quality experience, through design critiques and collaboration
- Basic planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and communication skills
- Some travel may be required, including overnight stays
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of insurance and financial services products preferred
- Ability to obtain certification(s) in a CUA or HCI related field is a plus
- Experience with user tools helpful.
Location: This role will be based in Des Moines, IA and benefit from a hybrid work arrangement with three days in office and two days working remote each week.

Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$71250 – $95950 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
