The opportunity
In this dynamic role, the seasoned financial leader will drive a team through complex financial and regulatory landscapes. They will oversee external financial reporting, ensuring compliance with IFRS standards, and manage regulatory filings with precision
They should expect high visibility as they collaborate with Senior Leaders and engage with the Audit Committee. The need to keep abreast of IFRS, OSFI, CDIC, and other regulatory guidelines is of utmost importance. A keen eye for detail will be crucial in monitoring and reporting data and financial information, mitigating compliance risks and supporting a robust internal control environment.
Areas of focus
External Reporting:
Oversees quarterly and annual financial reporting and disclosures in compliance with IFRS.
Provides oversight and technical guidance for subsidiary financial statements.
Ensures proper disclosure of new accounting standards and provides guidance on the implementation of significant accounting policies.
Assesses impact of complex transactions on reporting.
Collaborates with external auditors for reviews and audits.
Supports Investor Relations with financial information required for presentations and conference calls.
Oversees preparation of materials for inclusion in management and board committee packages.
Provides technical accounting expertise and support to internal stakeholders.
Participates in external technical working groups and contributes to industry specific consultation processes.
Regulatory Reporting:
Oversees team to ensure timely and accurate compliance with regulatory requirements.
Provides support and guidance to the regulatory team in respect of new and changing regulatory requirements and required technology and process changes.
Reviews and provides input on Capital Adequacy Requirements calculations and capital planning.
Researches and evaluates future regulatory changes impacting CWB’s operations and share insights and advice with Senior Management.
Collaborates with Risk, RDAAR, Forecasting and Treasury on inter-departmental reporting.
Provides finance support for capital market issuances.
Participates in regulatory working groups for industry insights.
Supports ad-hoc data and reporting requests from regulators in a professional and efficient manner.
Successful incumbent

Strong analytical skills are necessary to navigate business and regulatory complexities. Organizational abilities are crucial for meeting multiple deadlines and maintaining confidentiality. Demonstrated leadership in finance, disclosure, and regulation is essential. Initiative, creativity, and problem-solving are valued traits. A thorough understanding of finance and strategic acumen to drive continuous improvement. Adaptability to tight deadlines and task prioritization are imperative. Lastly, the ability to swiftly identify and solve issues independently is crucial for success.
Core knowledge requirements
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or economics with a strong academic record
CPA designation
Extensive knowledge of IFRS and OSFI supervisory framework, including guidelines, reporting requirements and regulatory returns.
Demonstrated experience
Experience with external financial reporting, including a deep understanding of complex accounting and financial statement concepts.
10+ years in progressively increasing finance leadership roles, including at least 5 years specializing in technical accounting, external and regulatory reporting in senior leadership roles.
Experience in regulated and publicly traded organizations, with experience in the financial services sector considered an asset.
