The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund was established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability, and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations of the Fund. The Operations Service is responsible for ensuring that all eligible participants, retirees, and other beneficiaries are serviced in accordance with the Regulations, Rules and Pensions Adjustment System of the Fund, while fully adhering to the communications, quality management and internal control policies as outlined in the Fund’s management charter. This position is located in the Operations Technical Support Unit (OTSU) in Operations Service in UNJSPF-PA. OTSU provides support to Operations in areas of capacity building, updating Operations documents, and serving as a Subject Matter Expert in System Enhancements in accordance with the Regulations, Rules and Pensions Adjustment System of the Fund. The unit also provides analysis with respect to various oversight observations and recommendations, while fully adhering to the communications, quality management and internal control policies as outlined in the Fund’s management charter. The incumbent at this level reports to the Chief of Unit, under the overall guidance of the Chief of Operations Support Section.ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Benefits Assistant serves as pension benefits expert to Operations. Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: •Prepares periodic written output, e.g. updates Procedure Generals and other administrative documents for approval, drafts processes, and guides for business users; •Leads and/or Serves as the focal point and subject matter expert for complex and possible exceptions to established procedures for recommendation to senior management for approval. •Leads and/or Serves as a subject matter expert on system issues/enhancements; •Provides information and advice and assists in the analysis and disposition of the most complex benefit cases. •Assists in designing curriculum and delivers trainings; •Provides guidance to other Benefits Assistants including on the job training, and assists to ensure that clients are provided with accurate information; •Researches, compiles, and prepares responses to enquiries and/ identifies problems and issues to be addressed from oversight bodies’ reports, propose and initiates corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; ensures follow-up actions; •Analyses business processes, foresees risks and suggests/drafts improvements, and implements as necessary; •Deputizes for Benefit Officer/Unit Chief in his/her absence in overseeing the operations of the work Unit. •Performs other duties as may be required.Competencies

The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to eight (8) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in pension benefits administration is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. Experience designing and delivering trainings, especially in e-learning platforms is desirable.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
