AIUSA’s Campaigns & Crisis Response Unit leads the design and implementation of the organization’s human rights Campaigns, Spotlights and Crisis Response efforts to make a real difference in peoples’ lives as a step toward transforming our world to one in which all human rights of all people, everywhere, are respected, protected and fulfilled. The Amnesty movement defines a Campaign as a highly focused, time-bound, and winnable project, strategically planned, coordinated, and communicated to achieve an explicitly defined external objective. The organization’s Campaigns use a range of tactics and a high concentration of human and operational resources. AIUSA’s Campaigns can be on any human rights topic, issue or case, in the US or globally. Advancing inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA) are at the heart of our Campaigns and everything we do.
The fixed-term Senior Campaigner plays an important and exciting role with diverse stakeholders in creating, implementing, evaluating, and winning AIUSA’s human rights Campaigns, Spotlights and Crisis Response efforts.
The position helps develop effective strategies; carries out efficient management of specific projects; leads the planning and implementation of effective and creative tactics within the strategy, particularly grassroots activism tactics and stunts; creates compelling campaigning and activism materials and content including for public education and engagement; trains and inspires activists; and carries out critical logistical and administrative duties.
Strong experience is preferred in Refugee and Migrants Rights, including asylum; authoritarian practices and freedom of expression and assembly; U.S. foreign policy and human rights; and/or Gender, Sexuality and Identity Rights.
This role is a union position and covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Communication Workers of America (CWA), Local 1180.
Qualifications

B.A. and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience

Experience leading the development and implementation of impactful campaigns, including the creation of effective strategies and the implementation of effective grassroots activism tactics and creative stunts

Experience with key campaign tactics including grassroots activism, public education, creative stunts, coalition-building, lobbying, and strategic communications.

Experience writing compelling public education materials and social media messaging

Experience creating campaigns that deeply engage people in grassroots activism, including through collaboration, inspiration, training, materials and mobilization

Experience lobbying government officials and doing public speaking is preferred. Demonstrated success in collaborating with a range of internal and external diverse stakeholders, including across teams, and with volunteers and partners, in designing and winning campaigns

Demonstrated success in designing and running campaigns that helped grow and diversify a grassroots base

Demonstrated success in designing and running campaigns that advance inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility

Experience using digital tools including email, SMS, social media and data analytics to achieve campaign victories that attract new supporters. Demonstrated commitment and understanding of a range of human rights issues

Basic understanding of international human rights law preferred

Spanish or other languages a plus
