Join our Sustainability and Carbon team within the Environment and Health department as our new Consultant and work with us to close the gap to a sustainable future.Your new role
As our new Consultant, you will support projects with confidence and embrace continuous learning to excel in your technical field. This role is about innovation, effective project management, fostering strong client relationships with clients who strive for excellence in sustainability.Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead or support projects delivering high-quality climate change and carbon reporting to provide advice to clients and project teams and support planning and EIA applications.
  • Undertake Whole Life Carbon Assessments and carbon management on projects in line with PAS2080:2023.
  • Working with client teams to identify opportunities for sustainable design and climate resilience measures and carbon reduction initiatives including hosting project workshops, training sessions and attending meetings.
  • Stay informed about evolving regulations, policies, and reporting frameworks related to carbon accounting and carbon management.
  • Proactively identifying potential client leads, and collaboratively contribute to the expansion of our carbon and EIA advisory services.
  • Work in tandem with our other service offerings such as net zero projects and sustainability services.
  • Support training and knowledge sharing with junior staff.
  • Serve as a positive team member, embodying Ramboll’s expected values.

To give you a flavour of the projects you might work on, some examples of our recent and ongoing work are:

  • Carbon baselining and carbon management plans for infrastructure projects in line with PAS2080 such as National Highways road projects and large port infrastructure.
  • EIA scoping reports and climate chapters to support building and infrastructure planning applications such as Birmingham Smithfield masterplan and Goodwood BMW factory.
  • Strategic and technical support to National Highways to assist in implementing their Environmental Sustainability strategy and Net Zero highways plan.
  • Carbon/sustainability management plan and options assessments for infrastructure upgrade works for the British Antarctic Survey.
  • Carbon accounting, SBTi target setting, decarbonisation strategy/options for a Private Equity company.
  • Carbon accounting, supplier engagement, CDP and TCFD disclosure for a manufacturing company in the automotive industry.

Your new team
You will be part of our Sustainability and Carbon team within the UK Environment and Health business unit. We provide services in corporate net zero strategy, science-based targets advisory, carbon data management, energy efficiency, sustainability and climate risk, biodiversity net gain, natural capital, EHS management, impact assessment, health sciences, air quality, BREEAM Infrastructure and due diligence to diverse clients in various sectors. You might be the perfect fit for this opportunity or another within our team.You will typically have four to five years’ experience which may include the following areas:

  • Background in one, or more, of these areas (background doesn’t have to necessarily be climate and carbon): environmental planning; EIA; climate change; DCO; town planning; urban planning.
  • Experience leading and supporting production of carbon and climate chapters for EIA reports and carbon management plans.
  • Knowledge of carbon and climate reporting guidelines and standards e.g., PAS 2080, IEMA Guidance.
  • Familiarity with emissions factor databases and potentially third-party GHG software tools e.g., OneClick LCA
  • An understanding of and experience in using climate data and projections.
  • Experience of delivering projects, developing strategies and implementing change in the carbon areas described above.
  • Experience of supporting project management tasks to support delivery of projects on time and to budget.
  • Experience in preparing fee proposals and undertaking work winning activities.
  • Proficiency in numerical analysis e.g., Excel or carbon accounting software or digital platforms for carbon accounting.
  • Proficiency in report and presentation creation using software such as Word or PowerPoint.
  • Strong engagement and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal colleagues and external clients.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to learn new skills as you may be required to work across multiple workstreams.

Not essential but you may also be able to demonstrate experience in the following:

  • Developing feasibility studies, scenario analyses/option appraisals to identify and prioritize GHG emission reduction measures.
  • Sustainability and environmental strategies, LCAs, corporate reporting frameworks (e.g. CDP, TCFD) and Science-Based Targets.
  • General sustainability knowledge (waste, circular economy, sustainable finance, biodiversity, air pollution, social impact etc.)
  • Energy auditing and/or energy regulation compliance.
  • Use of Power BI.
