The successful candidate will be involved in fixed clinical commitments which would be determined by both their clinical training needs and the service requirements of the Institute an example timetable is outlined below.There is an option for the trainee to join the ‘out of hours’ specialist hepatology and endoscopy rota if suitably qualified following a period of induction. The trainee will always have access to Consultant support during on call periods. The on call rota (1 in 7) will involve taking part in the specialist hepatology rota and does not involve any commitment to acute general medicine.The trainee will also need to provide occasional ward cover during the day when required and there will be an element of administrative duties.Acceptance of an offer of this post will be deemed to include acceptance of the changes including remuneration in accordance with the Provisions of the agreement and circular (MD 1/92).The Post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies at the request of the appropriate consultant in discussion, where practical, with both senior and junior colleagues. The Post holder would not be expected to undertake work of this kind for long periods of time.Medical clearance and in some circumstances examination is required prior to appointment.Main duties of the jobThe post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.To observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.To observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff.To be responsible, with management support, for their own personal development and to actively contribute to the development of colleagues.This job description is intended as a guide to the general scope of duties and is not intended to be definitive or restrictive. Job responsibilitiesThe provision of a first class clinical service. Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty. Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with Kings College London / KHP. Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trusts procedures and operating policies. Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trusts service plans. Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Care Group or the Trust.Person Specification

  • Registerable medical qualification
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Registrar or equivalent training in gastroenterology and/or Hepatology (ST 6 level or above)

Desirable

  • Hepatology training
  • Independent upper gastrointestinal endoscopist with some experience in managing variceal bleeding.
