Applications are warmly invited for the post of Senior Clinical Fellow in Gynaecological Oncology at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust.This post is for a fixed-term of 23 months. This is a suitable position for senior trainees hoping to enhance their exposure and experience in the specialist area/s.University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire is one of the UK’s leading specialist teaching hospitals, providing world-class healthcare to a population of over 1,000,000. The Trust employees more than 6,500 staff and has 1250 inpatient beds across its two sites, University Hospital Coventry and the Hospital of St. Cross in Rugby.The Gynaecological Oncology department at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire is a tertiary referral centre for women diagnosed with gynaecological malignancy in the Midlands Cancer Network. All Gynaecology inpatient activity is run at University Hospital site and most outpatient activity occurs here. The department also offers outpatient services including Urogynaecology, General Gynaecology, and Colposcopy from Rugby hospital site.Main duties of the jobThe position offers comprehensive training in Gynaecological Oncology leading to RCOG Sub Speciality Accreditation. The centre undertakes complex gynaecological surgery including radical surgery for ovarian cancer, exonerative surgery for recurrent gynaecological malignancy and advanced minimal access surgery including robotic surgery.Completion of the programme should allow the successful candidate to be appointed to a consultant position within the NHS in the sub speciality.Candidates able to demonstrate fulfilment of the RCOG Sub Speciality requirements for the research component of the training programme, either by way of an M.D. or PhD, or who have a track record of successful and relevant publications in peer review journals, will complete a two year programme. Candidates still needing to satisfy the research component of the programme will be considered and would be expected to complete a 3 year programme. Continuing commitment to clinical research will be expected and encouraged throughout the training programme. Job responsibilitiesThe successful candidate will work in collaboration with clinical colleagues, to deliver a comprehensive gynaecological oncology service to patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire communities. The department would welcome candidates with previous experience of gynaecology oncology.

  • The successful applicant will be required to contribute towards service development which includes supervising junior trainees. Additionally, there would be a requirement to participate in the out of hours middle grade On-Call rota.
  • The appointee will be accountable for improving and complying with infection control practice
  • The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the required modules within the training programme. Thus the work pattern will vary in order to accommodate these modules.
