We are currently seeking a Senior Controller/Director of Finance and Accounting for our, Mississauga based, client.
Job Description:
Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Managing Director, in alignment with the strategies and objectives of the company, the Controller maintains organizational financial and accounting systems, and controls by establishing sound financial and accounting policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems. The Controller is responsible for serving as a team leader in the finance department and ensuring the department maintains and executes a variety of financial procedures, including month-end and year-end closings, and creates accurate and timely financial records for the organization.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
– Accounts payable: process supplier transactions, maintain supplier data and relations
– Accounts receivable: process customer transactions, maintain customer data and relations
– Ensure timely collections of AP and ensure both AP and AR are up to date
– In conjunction for the managing Director, build and manage the finance team
– Intercompany transactions: coordinate all transactions with other BUs in the group
– Bank reconciliations: monitor local cash flows and update consolidated cash flow software
– Inventories: balance physical inventories to general ledger
– Depreciation & prepaid schedules: update and record assets, prepayments and their utilization
– Prepare and file monthly sales tax remittances (GST, PST, HST)
– Ensure internal processes and procedures for cost controls and variance analysis are in place
– Maintain employee files and employment contracts
– Monitor / maintain employee group insurance coverage
– Monitor / maintain employee benefit packages (vacations, travel allowances, commissions)
– Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll and expenses
– Prepare and submit monthly provincial and federal payroll taxes (DAS)
– Prepare and submit the various provincial Health and Safety filing requirements (All provinces)
– Calculate yearly taxation requirements for employee benefits
– Oversee preparation of year end provincial and federal tax documents for employees (T4, R1)
– Prepare and submit yearly provincial summary of employer tax withholdings (Sommaire 1)
– Ensure compliance with local and Group accounting standards (IFRS)
– Prepare monthly internal Financial Statements
– Prepare detailed monthly general ledger analysis (budget to actual)
– Update and balance month end order book / sales (local and consolidated (WIM))
– Update monthly consolidation reporting software (Cognos) with current results
– Prepare and update yearly budget process in consolidation reporting software (Cognos)
– Overview and assist auditors in Year End Review process
– Review and assist in preparation of local yearly Corporate Tax Return (Income tax, T106)
– Review and assist in preparation of yearly Transfer Pricing requirements for CRA
– Ensure proper functioning of local office in accordance with company policies
– Ensure operating and business needs are met: maintenance, supplies, services, etc
– Liaise with government bodies, external legal counsel, external tax experts and financial institutions as required.
Job Requirements:
– Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.
– Ability to manage time and distribute workloads for timely and accurate reporting.
– Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
– Strong attention to detail.
– Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
– Maintain a professional and courteous environment.
– Must be self-motivated and proactive.
– Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks, and identify work priorities is a must.
– Ability to perform a variety of administrative assignments requiring considerable exercise of independent judgment.
– Valid Passport for out of country travel
– Maintain required vaccinations for Domestic and International travel
Qualifications:
– Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems. JD Edwards and/or SAP, preferred.
– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation is preferred
– Demonstrated experience leading a finance team
– Proven experience in a senior financial role, with a track record of successful financial management.
– Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
– Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
