Senior Design roleMinimum Qualifications

  • Electrical design, verification of electrical installations (QCF level 4/2396)

Nice to have

  • Any solar training course, CPD’s
  • Electrical installations (QCF level 3 2357/2365)
  • Electrical testing and inspection (QCF level 3/2391)
  • Previous experience in Commercial scale design

Job Role

  • Manage, Grad design Engineers, Design Engineers to complete designs instructed by the
  • company and make use of the skillsets to support within the required business time
  • frame.
  • Show due diligence and use of engineering judgement.
  • Identifying non-compliance and safety issues and clarifying with the person(s) your
  • supporting with proposed solutions.
  • Complete designer risk assessments for the designs submitted.
  • Control designs that are allocated to you and review at the end of each design
  • submission.
  • Complete detailed description of equipment, accessories outlined with design.
  • Possess as appropriate to the nature of the work to be undertaken, adequate education,
  • training and practical skills and who is able to perceive risks and avoid hazards.
  • Able to, or instruct and Understand fully Solar PV Design Principles: Have a strong
  • understanding of the fundamental concepts, principles, and components involved in solar
  • photovoltaic (PV) systems. This includes knowledge of solar panels, inverters, mounting
  • structures, and electrical connections.
  • Able to, or instruct Site Assessments: Perform site assessments to evaluate the feasibility of
  • installing solar PV systems. This involves analysing factors such as shading, orientation,
  • available roof space, and electrical infrastructure.
  • Able to, or instruct to Design Solar PV Systems: Have the skills to design efficient and
  • effective solar PV systems. This includes sizing the system, determining the number and
  • arrangement of solar panels, selecting appropriate inverters, and designing electrical
  • connections.
  • Able to, or instruct Participate in training programs and engage in continuous learning to
  • enhance your knowledge and skills.
  • Able to, or instruct the preparation of technical documentation and cost estimates for
  • tender responses. This includes collaborating with the sales or business development team
  • to provide technical expertise and input.
  • Able to manage/utilise the team to complete the designs in an effective way
  • (G99) Applications: Able to complete or instruct and review compliance with G99
  • regulations, which govern the connection and operation of generation equipment in the
  • UK’s electrical power system.
  • Support with Tender Response Technical Documents and Estimating: Able to complete, or
  • instruct and complete technical documents and cost estimates for tender responses,
  • working closely with the sales or business development team.
  • Electrical System Design, including Cable and Protection Calculations: Able to complete or
  • instruct and review the expertise in designing electrical systems for solar PV installations,
  • including cable sizing, protection device selection, and related calculations.
  • CAD/PV Syst/PV Sol: Able to complete or instruct team members in using CAD software for
  • creating detailed system drawings and layouts.
  • Liaising with Clients Ensuring Designs Meet Their Requirements: Communicate effectively
  • with clients to understand their needs and incorporate their feedback into the design
  • process. Ensure that the final solar PV designs align with client expectations. Articulate it in
  • such a way that the audience understands and adapt where its required to be technical.
  • To complete assessment and document reviews of works provided to you or completed
  • by other seniors. Provide constructive feedback and in a clear communicative way.
  • Able to communicate to support in technical conversations and support the team where
  • areas are not understood to help with the teams technical knowledge and
  • understanding.
  • Provide accurate and detailed responses to the questions asked.
  • Able to explain when its opinion opposed to regulations when asked questions
  • Able to understand what the impact of statutory and non-statutory documentation and
  • the outcome if not followed or understood.
  • Complete surveys on sites and prior to site visit to ensure the correct information is
  • captured for the design to progress 1st time and highlight issues or risk that can be
  • addressed immediately.
  • Attendance and supporting on Stakeholder Broadcast calls, Design Forums, Workshops.
  • Ensure data within the companies’ tools is kept up to date and clear even when
  • instructing the teams and their data.
  • Create drawings to include access details and methodology for the installation and
  • maintenance of.
  • Create an output on lessons learnt when mistakes are made by yourself or the team members you work with
