We are a trusted construction partner to many of the most respected private and public sector organisations in the UK.Whether a new build, a repurposed or reconstructed property, a heritage restoration or a multi-phased development, our clients trust us to drive delivery, deal with complexity, and provide strategic and long-term economic and social value with innovative and sustainable solutions.The roleThe role of the Senior Design Manager is to ensure that an effective and productive liaison is established with respect to all aspects of the delivery, between the design team, project / site team, commercial, client teams and supply chain putting the expertise of all to the best possible use. The Manager will liaise with the Design Manager and will be instrumental in coordinating and guiding the consultant team and supply chain through the delivery of the packages to mitigate design risk and maximise value to the client/business.What will you do

  • Responsible for the management of the entire design management process, ensuring design information is ready on time and meets the needs of the project.
  • Formulate, lead and implement a Design Strategy including Document Control for the project, design meeting schedules, progress tracking, reporting and issues and risks.
  • Define the scope of services of each Design Team consultant through the use of a Design Responsibility Matrix and ensure consultants appointments are in line with Lendlease Protocols.
  • Drive the supply chain to the finished product through leading, motivating and managing the external consultants at a Principal’s Level.
  • Mange risk connected with the design and developing mitigation strategies
  • Liaise with and engage clients, their stakeholders and wider client team to ensure the design, as it develops, continues to meet the brief and scope of work agreed, Understand, translate and ensure the design is compliant with the technical standards
  • Collaborate with designers, subject matter experts (SME’s), other professionals and stakeholders to develop efficient and effective buildings.
  • Managing and leading a team of Information Managers and BIM Managers on the project and maintain records and documents throughout the project.
  • Work with the wider Lendlease project team to ensure change is captured and managed in line with the contract conditions.
  • Audit all Design Stage Reports and ensure comments are actioned in the next design stage.
  • Add value to the project through sensible and practical Value Engineering, seeking alternative options in design whilst maintaining the essence of the design through all stages of the design process, ensuring these options are agreed by all and integrated into the design.
  • Manage and record Lessons Learned throughout the Design Process and ensure through sharing and collaboration that they are incorporated into any future projects and design stages.
  • Identify and capture the Net Zero and Social Value performance of the designs
  • Responsible for people management of direct line reports.
  • With the commercial team, manage budgets related to design work.
  • Active participation in Lendlease Design Management Leadership Team.
  • Support business sustainability goals, guiding clients and project teams toward sustainable and resilient design solutions.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.

You will bring

  • Trained in all safety matters and holder of CSCS card for Project Managers.
  • Knowledge of public buildings design needs including potential enhancements.
  • Thorough knowledge of the complete design and construction process.
  • Thorough knowledge of design and construction technical details.
  • Experience in the selection and procurement of designers on a competitive basis.
  • Good understanding of the principles of Modular, DfMA and industrialisation and how it impacts the design process.
  • Able to direct, and where necessary negotiate with, major design practices.
  • Previous experience as a design manager/architect on a significant new build project.
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of the RIBA Work Stages and their deliverables.
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of the Professional Services Agreements.
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of Designer Scope of Services.
  • Awareness of impact of both the BSA and CDM on the design process.
  • Experience in the creation and use of project control mechanisms.
  • Competent IT skills in relevant programmes; Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Acrobat, AutoCAD/ MicroStation, BIM, Navisworks etc.
