The role will be responsible for leading tax advice and risk assessment related to CIBC’s domestic corporate structure as well as providing support and tax advice to stakeholders across CIBC in respect of domestic strategic initiatives. The Senior Director, Domestic Tax Planning will coordinate with the Senior Director, Compliance & Planning on all Canadian domestic tax aspects of new business initiatives, projects or new legislation affecting CIBC and its subsidiaries for tax accounting, tax compliance, and tax reporting purposes. The Senior Director, Domestic Tax Planning reports to the Senior Vice-President, Taxation.At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.How you’ll succeedTax Planning – You’ll lead and manage a broad range of tax planning matters pertaining to Canadian domestic income tax.Strategic Initiatives and Implementation – Identify, assess and analyze the Canadian tax dimensions of a transaction, and coordinating with Indirect Tax, Tax Compliance, and International Tax colleagues to incorporate these dimensions, as well.Risk Analysis – Analyze new Canadian domestic tax legislation and work with various stakeholders to assess and quantify impact to CIBC.Relationship Management – Develop relationships and partnerships with stakeholders at all levels within CIBC in order to effectively manage the delivery of tax services, as well as collaborating with external advisors as requiredIndustry Expert – Keep abreast of both tax legislative and administrative changes in respect of Canadian domestic tax rules and tax accounting rules for domestic tax planning and tax compliance purposes.Who you areYou can demonstrate experience. At least 7 or more years of Canadian domestic tax experience. Exposure to the financial services industry would be regarded as an asset, however, consideration will be given to candidates with less experience but who have a strong interest and desire to learn the financial services business.You are a certified professional. You are a CPA or a tax lawyer. Ideally, you have completed Levels I and II of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course, or alternatively, a Master of Taxation.You’re goal oriented.
