Job Summary Lead the operating model for Group Risk Management’s centralized Transformation Management Office (“GRM’s TMO”). The focus of the TMO is to provide proactive portfolio, program & change management support to the Chief Risk Officer, GRM COO and GRM’s Operating Committee.

The objectives of the TMO for GRM are to:
– Manage governance processes and maintain an aggregated line of sight on the portfolio status (including benefit profile) and key risks pertaining to GRM’s significant regulatory and strategic initiatives.
– Improve the management of project risk (a key operational risk of GRM) through formalized and consistent program and change management approaches; and
– Improve quality and speed of decision making to achieve strategic outcomes

Lead GRM’s TMO operating model and proactively manage its continuous enhancement.

Job Description

What is the opportunity?

As part of the Group Risk Management team, the Senior Director will lead the operating model for Group Risk Management’s centralized Transformation Management Office (“GRM’s TMO”). The focus of the TMO is to provide proactive portfolio, program & change management support to the Chief Risk Officer, GRM COO and GRM’s Operating Committee.

The Senior Director will manage a team and continue to build a community of practice across GRM including working with senior leaders to identify and execute key initiatives, both within GRM as well as horizontal opportunities that can impact and require engagement with other parts of RBC.

What will you do?

  • Assess GRM’s on-going program and change management requirements and provide thought leadership for the development of any revisions to the operating model for GRM’s TMO roles and activities
  • Lead and manage the principles, methodology, governance and authorities, and resourcing protocol that will form consistent project/program and change management requirements and execution throughout GRM.
  • Ensure a robust staffing plan is implemented for permanent and contingent workforce roles for the TMO portfolio.
  • Ensure GRM’s program management tool(s) are aligned with RBC approaches including engagement in the Enterprise Project Portfolio Management solutions, frameworks and policies.
  • Oversee functional processes performed by the TMO Centre of Excellence, such as stakeholder management, portfolio management, planning and reporting, change management, methodology development, coaching and training.
  • Integrate oversight of key Internal Audits as appropriate
  • Liaise with internal partners such as GRM Business Managers, Technology & Operations, Finance, and other TMO’s across RBC
  • Own and deliver continuously improving TMO outputs, such as reports, monthly dashboards and presentations to the CRO, GRM COO and GRM Operating Committee. Outputs will be shared with Internal Audit and regulators as required.
  • Provide execution direction, oversight and assurance on key programs/projects within the portfolio. Lead program/project execution assessments (health checks) as required.
  • Partner with the Enterprise Program Management Office and federation of enterprise TMO’s
  • Serve as the GRM representative for certain enterprise initiatives. Assess the impacts to GRM and support the management of the change associated with these initiatives.
  • Support GRM senior leadership with other projects and cross-functional/enterprise initiatives.
  • Develop and implement process improvements where feasible, and seek synergies with other teams within Group Risk Management
  • Build capabilities within the TMO team; and implement plans for team members to cross-train, supporting back-up assignments and succession planning

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • 8+ year related work experience with at least five years in risk management. Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong influencing skills with senior management
  • Extensive Problem solving skills and Solution mindset
  • Experience in developing visibility of productivity and efficiency across end to end process

Nice-to-Have:

  • Deliver consistent decisions with solid communication of rationale for support, amendments or declines
