SENIOR ACCOUNTANT – CIVIL INFRASTRUCTUREJOB DESCRIPTIONSSA Group is collaborating with a leading contracting/construction company with multiple operations across North America, that is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its team in Vaughan, Ontario.This is an ideal position for a driven Finance professional with a solid accounting foundation who is seeking an opportunity to further build upon their experience and knowledge by gaining valuable exposure to a rapidly growing company. This role will provide the opportunity to develop your skills and career. This is a full-time in-office position located in Vaughan, Ontario and reports to the Controller of the business(es).RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer monthly accounting close procedures and deliverables (journal entries, reconciliations, reports) in compliance with GAAP
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations and journal entries
- Prepare monthly financial reports with supporting schedules, including comparing and analyzing actual results with budget and forecasts.
- Assist with external and internal audits
- Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process
- Tax filing – assistance in preparing the regulatory tax files, assisting with annual audit, assurance and tax engagements.
- Prepare and file HST returns
- Performing accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash disbursements and bank reconciliation functions
- Assist with ad hoc projects and duties in the Accounting department
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- University degree in Accounting and working towards the completion of the CPA program
- 4+ years of professional accounting experience which involve internal and external financial reporting
- Experience in the construction industry and knowledge of percentage of completion accounting would be a strong asset
- Strong analytical and financial background with proficiency in Excel and Jonas (an asset)
- A quick and constant learner, setting a standard for yourself, ability to adapt and learn new software systems/tools
- Excellent professional communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work with a team, multi-task and be proactive
- Able to understand that details matter and have strong problem-solving abilities
- Experience using established accounting software is strongly desired
- Experienced in leading direct reports would be an asset
