We are looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to support our Finance department.Job Outline:This position requires maintaining computerized financial systems including general ledgers and reports, leads monthly forecast /variance reporting for specific Bridgepoint programs, collects statistical and financial data, and prepares journal entries resulting in monthly, quarterly, and year-end information and reports. The SFA will also collect, analyze and report information in a meaningful manner to assist in the preparation of the operating plan, participate in process re-engineering, design and maintenance of internal controls as well as assist in the documentation of financial procedures and processes.
- Responsible for performing the day-to-day accounting, financial reporting and analysis to support on-going internal and external reporting requirements in a timely and accurate manner
- Prepare assigned month-end journal entries
- Perform monthly Balance Sheet account reconciliations, account analysis, accrual calculations, and other related accounting documents/schedules
- Responsible for the preparation and analysis of budget to actual variances for the monthly management reporting of financial results for senior management and internal department leads
- Attends and leads monthly meetings with departmental cost center managers and directors to discuss financial results by comparing and analyzing plans and forecasts against actual results
- Liaise with assigned departmental cost center managers as required to investigate and resolve budget and other financial related issues
- Provides leadership in the preparation of quarterly and year-end requirements and analysis as required for external audits and liaises with external auditors throughout the audit process
- Maintains reporting structures, mappings and other groupings to ensure compliance to MIS and CPA Canada Handbook reporting standards
- Responsible for performing special projects to improve process efficiency and performance
- Increases productivity by developing automated applications; eliminating duplications; coordinating information requirement
- Assists in collecting and preparing data required for various external projects /questionnaires / surveys / studies as requested
- Provide back-up support for other financial analysts as required from time to time
- Assists in the budget planning process and monthly financial results forecasting
- Undertakes ad hoc Finance projects or other responsibilities as assigned to ensure successful implementation
Education and Qualifications:
- A Business or Commerce degree with a major in Accounting from a recognized university
- Canadian professional CPA designation (CMA, CA preferred) or currently working towards a professional accounting designation combined with relevant work experience
- Minimum of three years related work experience, preferably in healthcare
- Sound knowledge of Canadian GAAP/PSAS and financial reporting requirements
- Knowledge of MOHLTC reporting and MIS guidelines an asset
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and database tools
- Experience with Meditech financial applications an asset
- Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a team with minimal supervision
- Sound understanding of internal controls and financial work processes
- Excellent analytical, investigative and creative problem-solving skills
- Strong background and experience in operations review and process re-engineering
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
