Job description

King’s Business School is the ninth and newest faculty at King’s College London, emerging out of the renowned School of Management & Business. We are looking to recruit an outstanding candidate to join the Economics Department at Senior Lecturer or Reader level.  We welcome candidates in any sub discipline of economics.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to high quality research and will be able to contribute excellent teaching to the development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  You should hold a PhD in a relevant field, have a high-quality track record of publications in leading refereed journals and an interest in generating impact and securing research income.   

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract   

This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

  • To contribute to the School’s research profile and reputation through publication in top international journals and participation in the major academic networks. 
  • To take a role in the planning, organisation and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • To carry out a range of academic management duties as requested by the Executive Dean.
  • Lead and sustain top-quality research activity through a portfolio of individual and/or joint research projects and to secure the funding required for this research as required.
  • Supervise, guide and support postgraduate research students and/or research staff.
  • Attend meetings and internationally recognized conferences to present research findings and thereby enhance the national and international standing of the School.
  • Take responsibility for the planning, organisation and delivery of both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities within the School.
  • Develop and use a variety of methods to assess student learning and provide feedback that is timely, relevant and appropriate.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required by the Head of Department.

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Skills, knowledge, and experience  

Essential criteria – Reader Grade

1.       PhD in relevant subject area 

2.       Appropriate list of relevant publications, evidence of world-class research capacity and experience of developing research projects suitable for  funding bids 

3.       Significant experience of teaching at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level, and of being innovative in curriculum design and willingness to contribute to the pastoral care of students 

4.       Significant experience of carrying out academic administration 

5.       Engagement in professional organisations (conference papers, workshops, memberships) and generating impact from research 

Desirable criteria – Reader Grade

1.       Willingness to collaborate with colleagues in the Faculty and university and experience of being a team player 

Essential criteria – Senior Lecturer

1.       PhD in relevant subject area 

2.       Appropriate list of relevant publications and significant evidence of world-class research capacity 

3.       Significant experience of teaching at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level and being innovative in teaching and curriculum design and willingness to contribute to the pastoral care of students 

4.       Some experience of carrying out academic administration 

5.       Significant experience of being innovative in teaching and curriculum design 

6.       Engagement in professional organisations (conference papers, workshops, memberships) 

Desirable criteria – Senior Lecturer

1.       Experience of being a team player and significant desire to promote the subject at all levels 

1.       Willingness to collaborate with colleagues on teaching and research
